I heard stories about the best pizzeria in town for years.We decided to go check it out for a weekend lunch.We were the only customers in a large, clean, simply decorated (bit like American diner) Italian restaurant. It has a large terrace, but it was too cold at the time to sit outside. Menu is extensive. Maybe too much choice?My husband took a pizza quatro stagione, I took a calzone. Both were way to big, soggy and filled with half raw onions. Staff was very friendly, but friendliness couldn't make up for the bad food. It was not expensive, but even if it was free we wouldn't go back.I hope we were just unlucky, since the staff was so friendly. Passing by, I don't see as many customers anymore as a few years ago.

The "very good" rating is because of the delicious food (lamb brochette with gorgonzola sauce and ostrich filet with tomato/wine sauce are recommended, as are all the tajine dishes). Service however was a disaster. We waited more than one hour for the entree. Main course came a bit faster. Nearly all the orders for drinks needed to be repeated twice or three times (explanation: "Oops, we didn't find it back on the computer). For main course and dessert, no cutlery arrived. When requested, we were answered that we hadn't asked for it. This restaurant is a nice place with good food and a beautiful terrace, but there is some space left for improvements concerning the attitude of the staff. Too bad...

Nice terrace overlooking the lovely square with the Zimmertoren. The quality of the food is not exceptional, just mediocre. The tomato sauce, used in a lot of dishes is in my opinion too industrial. It misses this specific authentic Mediteranian flavor. From a restaurant serving tapas I expect happy attentive staff. Unfortunately, this was not the case for all waiters. Let's call it functional service without a soul. For me food is overpriced compared to the quality served.

I went to this delightful Italian restaurant many times. Time for a review about it! Al Taglio is very nicely situated, not far off the Grote Markt of Lier. When you are lucky and you can dine outside, you have a really gorgeous view on the waterfront and the City Hall. When you arrive, you are kindly welcomed, though the staff can sometimes be distracted because of how busy they are. Last time we were escorted to a table by the window. Although the restaurant occupies two floors of an old mansion, it has a really cosy feeling. We started our evening with the Antipasto Rustica all'italiana. Guaranteed value for your money! It was delicious and the portions are more than enough: four plates of antipasti for our group of eight were sufficient enough as a starter. Some of us were already full and the main course was still to come! The restaurant has an extensive range of pizzas and fresh pastas. So much that it is difficult to make a choice because it all looks so scrumptious! This time I chose the pizza diavola piccante. I can really recommend it. It has an amazing crunchy crust. I haven't been able to eat it completely because of how big it was, but it certainly tasted good! Although I was full, I still felt like ordering a dessert, because the tiramisu here is of the best I ever ate. It is quite a large one too, so no complaints from me. I want to give the staff an enormous shout out, because they are really amazing. They are nice, discreet and serve the meals professionally. Al Taglio is highly recommended: they will definitely see us again!

We have been eaten there with the family to celebrate my birthday. It was a wonderful evening with great Italian food, a good personal service, a nice and happy atmosphere, really great. I really would recommend this restaurant to everybody who likes authentic Italian food (and who does not like that...?) We will certainly go back!!

The food is tasty, but nothing special. For the food i give 3/5. Why a 4/5 then?? Because the atmosphere is nice, the staff is very friendly, the patio is cosy and the music is splendid. The prices are a little to high for what you get.
