Reviews on Mediterranean food in Hatay Province, Turkish Mediterranean Coast, Turkey. Hatay Province (Turkish: Hatay ili, pronounced [ˈhataj]) is a province in southern Turkey, on the eastern Mediterranean coast. The administrative capital is Antakya (Antioch), and the other major city in the province is the port city of İskenderun (Alexandretta). It is bordered by Syria to the south and east and the Turkish provinces of Adana and Osmaniye to the north. The province is part of Çukurova (Cilicia), a geographical, economical and cultural region that covers the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye, and Hatay. There are border crossing points with Syria in the district of Yayladağı and at Cilvegözü in the district of Reyhanlı. Sovereignty over the province remains disputed with neighbouring Syria, which claims that the province was separated from itself against the stipulations of the French Mandate of Syria in the years following Syria's independence from the Ottoman Empire after World War I. Although the two countries have remained generally peaceful in their dispute over the territory, Syria has never formally renounced its claims to it.

Located on the famous covered market street of Antakya called Uzun Carsi, this unpretentious butcher shop turns out to be a heavenly meat restaurant. Recommended by a friend, it was definitely a very good choice for lunch. It was full although it was past the normal lunch time. We were shown upstairs as the family place. Everything was simple but delicious. The salad was fresh, the tepsi kebab out of their oven was delicious. Prices are reasonable.
It will be my great pleasure to write down first comment in English so i may help you guys. First thing first this is a kebab based place. They welcome you big fat smiling face. Place is very clean and kitchen of theirs right in front of you. Location of this place may be off the coast but it will worth it. Necati is a great guy and he was so kind to sit with me and make my dinner even better. By the way this is a family restaurant. Strongly recommended.

We visited Kule Restaurant for the second time last weekend. The first was last year when we came to see the waterfalls at Harbiye. It is located ½ km past the entrance to the waterfall and it situated underneath the lighthouse that overlooks the river valley. It is a stunning location with spectacular views, if you do visit during the day. It offers both outdoor and indoor dining options amongst the flamingos, parrots and mandarin ducks. The main reason why I recommend coming here is the menu. It offers something different from the usual fare on offer in Antakya. It still has the ubiquitous selection of kebabs but on top of this are over 30 types of meze and salads. This includes good examples of the old favourites such as hummus and cacik and a number of others that arenât usually on offer â have a look at the website for details. The silver service is ridiculously attentive. It starts with the freshly baked bread being cut up for you with a pair of scissors and continues with your plate refreshed every few minutes. The restaurant is a 15 minute taxi ride from the centre of Antakya. Alcohol is served and the bill should be about â¬20 per person including drinks. If you are driving, the bloke in the car park will automatically wash your vehicle and will expect payment.
It was amazing! The original handmade turkish menu is absolutely stunning. Very friendly service at the kurtulus street and also very cheap. We definitily want to come again!

Antioch local snack dishes , is home to a 125-year old history can experience antakya alcoholic soft drinks.
We ended up here after another restaurant (and multiple friends who live in Hatay) recommended it. It was the first meal we had in Antakya and it was SO GOOD! My husband and I shared a couple of hot appetizers, an assorted hummus plate, and cheese kofte and could barely walk out of the building. The whole reason we wanted to come to Hatay in the first place was the food (we had tried Hatay-inspired food in other cities in Turkey and had been told to check it out by many friends), and this place did the opposite of disappointing.

Great food and good service but the a/c didn't work too good. Just to be fair, it was really hot outside.

We were in Antakya for 3 nights and our first evening was 14 February which made it difficult to find a table in most restaurants in town. Sveyka wasnât our first choice in Antakya but it was the only restaurant where we could reserve a table ( upstairs only). At the end, we were pleased with the food and the service. The location on one of the main streets ( Kurtulus Caddesi) was also convenient. There are two sections in this restaurant which was originally built as a house in 1945 by a Christian Arab family. It is more quiet upstairs if you prefer to talk. There is live and very loud music downstairs but the atmosphere is nicer and more exceptional. We liked the zahter and olive salad, Sam orugu as starters but not the Ali Nazik ( I prefer the Gaziantep version). As the main dish, the sour cherry kebab was something very special and delicious. The maklube, a local rice and meat dish wrapped inside fried eggplants was delicious as well. Pumpkin dessert with tahini was really very good. Prices were reasonable apart from the high price of drinks but that is a government policy. Staff was very polite and helpful. Toilets nice and clean.

Avlu name is courtyard in english. There are 2 seperate buildings and in between there is a courtyard. All the spaces are used as a part of restaurant. But it is not cramped or overloaded. All the personnel are well educated and polite. Although there are lots of local main dishes. Mostly you will be full after starters. If you are vegan you have tons of alternatives. If you like meat you have also. But to taste the local you should order the starters 1/2 portions so you can try all of it. My recommendations are Oruk (a kind of meat ball)Humus (buttered and pated chickpeas)Izgara Peynir (grilled cheese)Zeytin salatasi (olive salad)Zahter salatasi(a type of thyme salad)Ciger (liver)For the main dishCigerCektik kebabiLokum Are strongly recommendedAnd for the sweet Helva (halwa)Bon apatite. Ps. You can also try sifferen type of beverges.
