Takis Restaurant & Pizza

We've probably eaten @ Takis a dozen times in the last several years. Our most recent visit was a red flag. Food tasted ok, but within hours of eating was not feeling well - suspect it was something I ate. I noticed the next day {saturday] they weren't open for Lunch or Dinner, so suspect they may have found issues.

Nalan Sultan Mediterranean Grill

Reviewed By dbfoodie

Located at the edge of the downtown Eustis square, Nalan Sultan is a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant with an interior that is casual but nicely decorated with various Middle Eastern touches--mini lanterns, carpets, and other ornamental items. Strings of white lights across the ceiling made it pleasant and cozy inside. My wife and I started with the hummus, which arrived on a plate along with some warm pita bread. Both were tasty and there was ample hummus for the pitas served. The consistency of the hummus was thinner than I'm used to, but it was still quite good (and likely more authentic). For main plates we ordered a falafel platter and the beef shish platter, both of which came with a side of rice, a side salad, two small containers of what seemed like a tzatziki sauce, and some other sauce that I was not familiar with. The falafel were plentiful, nicely flavored and properly cooked, served over another delicious sauce that paired perfectly with the falafel and brought the entire plate together. The beef cubes were tender and nicely seasoned, going well with all of the sauces and other flavors on the plate. The outer char was quite nice, and while I prefer meat to be a little more of a medium cook, these were well-done without sacrificing any juicy flavor. The side salad was simple, consisting of chopped lettuce and tomatoes with what seemed to be a light but lovely vinaigrette dressing. The rice was light, aromatic and delicious, providing a nice counter-balance to the heavier main items and sauces. We asked for a kunefe dessert to go. It is sort of a syrup-soaked item that consisted of cooked strands of noodles or grains. I was wowed by how good this was...after two bites I was addicted and wanted another one, but my wife wasn't as impressed with the texture. While waiting for the kunefe we were treated to a small bowl of rice pudding. We are not fans of rice pudding but found this one to be absolutely fantastic! The very smooth texture along with the sweetness and little bit of cinnamon really made this THE best rice pudding we've had and would gladly order it on a return visit.Service was pleasant and fine. The only minor error was when our refills came with sweet tea instead of unsweetened, but that didn't put a damper on what was an otherwise lovely lunch. This is a wonderfully unique and fantastic addition to downtown Eustis and I hope they are around for a long time to come.

Very disappointing to discover the worst cooked 8oz filet I have ever tasted in my life. No one should ever destroy a cut of meat like that. Couldn't even eat it - it was so bad. Tasted like it was pan fried in 10oz of lard with grease dripping out of it, Calamari was so under cooked that it was raw under the breading. Good news was the drinks were strong enough to kill the taste. Our server was VERY sorry and offered to bring other foods but we declined her offer fearing it could get even worst. She worked very hard to take good care of her and the problem was not her fault. The kitchen owns this one. We took good care of our server for her efforts.
