Reviews on Mediterranean food in Columbia, Maryland, United States. Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States, and is one of the principal cities of the Baltimore metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. It began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious, and class segregation.

Middle of a strip mall in the Gateway complex
Very nice casual/chic Mediterranean restaurant, with fresh flavorful food. Lunch menu is extensive, with both traditional Mediterranean and American options. Lunch entrees include soup, salad and rice. Big portions at reasonable prices. Service is good, and there is a full bar. Plenty of parking, as the restaurant is in a strip mall.

Create flavorful grain bowls, salads, and pitas and pair with house-made juices and other local treats.
As someone who is only marginally familiar with Mediterranean faire, I was intimidated by the choices and then very satisfied by the combination of foods I selected for my bowl. The ingredients were fresh and the service area and dining room were clean. I felt rushed by the servers as their focus is getting people through the line rather than answering questions or offering suggestions. The dining area is noisy with high, ceilings, bare floors and metal chairs. Great for a quick meal, but not a relaxing experience.

Five stars all the way around for Xenia's décor, service and food. Couldn't believe we were dining in Columbia in such an upscale restaurant. Our table for four in the bar area overlooking the kitchen and the wonderful fish display (pick your own fish for dinner) was perfect and a low decibel level - great for conversation. Lucky for us we were there for happy hour with all appetizer choices at $7 (large enough to share) and wine by the glass (nice pours) also $7. Among our selections were Kalamarkia, Sliders, Souvlaki, Dolmadakia and not to mention the complimentary pita and olives provided when you're seated. As an after dinner surprise, a complimentary bowl of Greek donuts (Louukoumades) - filled with liquid honey - AMAZING! Xenia should be on everybody's list in Howard County.
