Lucca is littered with restaurants for the typical tourist. This is not one of them. The staff is very friendly. If you don't like the wine they suggested they will more than happy bring you an alternative. The food is excellent and well prepared. All the typical Italian dishes are available, but they taste better than the run of the mill restaurants you will find nearly anywhere. Try the Tiramisu. Although is lacks the almond liqour and egg as ingredients, it tastes as good or even better than your standard Tiramisu. A nice surpiseThank you so much, we really appreciate your words; we are so happy to see our efforts rewarded by such a good review; you got exactly the point of what our mission and commitment are: being different, alternative and not one of those "fake italian" restaurants where tourists are ripped off by stereotyped hosts in a kind of amusement park venues. We hope to see you soon again maybe even in our Pisa restaurant.Best regards

I had the pasta pepperoncino and my girlfriend had the ravioli with spinach, ricotta and sage. In my personal opinion two of the best pasta dishes i had during my stay in italy. I would like to thank god for creating earth, ppl, italy, pasta and the ppl behind this place.

'Gatta' is the one restaurant I booked before we arrived in Lucca. Firstly, the service is delightful. The two ladies at front of house could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were late arriving and they were very accommodating despite the place being quite busy. The decor is fun and the place is nice and bright. We chose a tasting menu based on fish and seafood. There are some unusual combinations and bright ideas. It started really well with fantastic home baked breads, all nicely seasoned and a lovely amuse bouche of apple and celeriac puree. The soup was a nice, traditional one of Tuscan beans with salt cod and it was tasty but, like the following courses, it was a bit under seasoned for our taste. Despite this, I really enjoyed the following dish of freshwater fish with courgette, pumpkin, balsamic and olive oil - it was beautifully fresh tasting. Neither if us much liked the next pasta dish although I did eat all of mine. The pasta was too 'al dente' for our taste and the sauce a little bland. Seared tuna was next and this time, the seasoning was not too bad but I often find tuna a little disappointing. I was hoping this would be different but I must just have a problem with tuna! Fortunately, desserts were truly delicious and (along with the bread) the highlight of the meal. I still give quite a high rating as I enjoyed the evening very much and the 'seasoning' issue is a personal one. My partner is a chef and I know that chefs vary quite considerably when it comes to this. Also, we could have asked for extra salt - it was a pity there was none on the table. We were asked about food allergies and preferences at the beginning which is always a good thing. I would still recommend 'Gatta'. Its a great experience and a different one in Lucca.

Osteria Canaiolo is located inside the park Hotel Hambros in Lunata a few kilometers from the city of Lucca
We had dinner here tonight and it was delicious. As we arrived there were people standing out side on the terrace. It felt more friendly and local than touristy. The service was friendly and open - and the host (owner?) speaks english. We stupidly forgot to ask his name. The food was simply divine. We had two pasta primo - green ravioli with ricotta and a seafood carbonari. For secondi I had a tuna in a Japanese style and my brother had beef. The tuna was delicious with a flavour I wasn't expecting and the beef was melt in your mouth perfect, tender and flavourful. My sister had the fish and chips and they were happy to do it grilled for her. There was a family group of 22 plus another group of maybe 8, and a few smaller tables like ours and they seemed to do very well bringing out food for the whole table at the same time. Because of the large group the service was a little slow, particularly to get our bill, but we totally understand the challenge of such a large group and agreed that they handled it very well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and want a delicious meal, reasonable price and friendly, tasteful atmosphere.

Quaint garden restaurant in a little side street serving traditional dishes of better quality than most in Lucca. We enjoyed the special tortelli made with asparagus and cinghiale with polenta. This was followed by a lovely desert Friendly service and a good wine list. Definitely worth trying.

Charming restaurant located in the basement of the Palace Bernardini (1580). History and tradition on local and Tuscan cuisine, gluten free proposals, private parties, groups and business meals. Cantine Bernardini in the heart of Lucca is a place where yo

We ate here on a Saturday evening during Lucca Comics and Games 2018. The place is quite small so it's better to make a reservation if you want to be sure to find a free table. As the name suggests, this place was originally born as a butcher's shop only, and evolved into a restaurant later (the name "ciberia" itself is really cool). Obviously, here you can eat mainly meat so it's not suggested if you're a vegan/vegetarian.The meat is incredible and if you order any kind of steak you can choose which one you want from a selection, too. The soup is great, too.The staff is kind, professional and helpful (it's not necessary to be a meat-expert to choose your steak, they will help you out).

During two weeks in the Montecarlo area we had a good number of restaurant meals and this was the most disappointing. There is an attempt to give the tradditional lucchese cuisine a modern twist but, as my coffee flavoured risotto attests, this doesn't always work. The 85 euro bill for two was way too expensive.

Fattoria Il poggio agriturismo,ristorante
The location, the food and the service here are all good. But the experience is spoiled by busloads of tourists, noisy and boisterous. This is good for business of course but those of us wanting a quiet Tuscan meal will go elsewhere in Montecarlo.
