Reviews on Mediterranean food in Canterbury Region, South Island, New Zealand. Christchurch, the Garden City, and the Canterbury region are the perfect destination for daredevils. From northern Kaikoura to Waimate in the south, Canterbury is an adventure sports paradise. Hangliding, helibiking, bungee jumping, snowboarding, jetboating, rafting and skydiving get the adrenaline going. Golfing, flightseeing, swimming with dolphins and soaking in thermal pools are more laid-back temptations. Christchurch, a city of parks and gardens, is the country’s third largest urban area.

Family meal last night in remembrance of our lost son so not a celebration but more a remembrance. Service friendly and very helpful. Ambiance very good. Buzzy for an early Thursday night.Bruschetta was very good and kids well looked after. Major downside was the seafood risottos. Both were disappointing as a large amount of stock had not been absorbed as it should be. Very disappointing. Everything was swimming in stock. In comparison the risotto at No. 4 restaurant, just round the corner, is always excellent and perfection. Try it. No relationship with No. 4.

Booked online, a very simple and efficient process. Greeted at the door by the Maitre'd who pointed us to our table without making the effort to seat us herself.Nice entrees, cheese pastries and garlic naan bread followed by lamb and chicken souvlaki platters. My wife followed up with a chocolate mousse dessert with sorbet, a rich and enjoyable finish. The souvlakis were what you'd expect, we were full when we left and prices were reasonable.Cant really complain about anything but equally there was nothing to rave about and encourage us to return in a hurry.Hi Martin Conway,Thanks very much for your feedback!I would just like to mention that we don't have garlic naan bread on the menu - it's pita bread. :)I am also the "maitre'd" that greeted you at the door. Your table was right next to where you were greeted - about 1-1.5 metres from where we were standing, with no surrounding tables. The table already had menus on it. Apologies that you were offended by me not walking you there, however it was right next to where we were standing and I felt it awkward walking you three steps to get there. :)Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again sometime!

I don't often rate restaurants in cities where I live or I have lived, as I know so many it would be unfair for some. Yet I'd like to briefly mention the Curator's House because it brings together some excellent features:Location - couldn't be better, being on the edge of the Botanical Gardens (you can literally walk out of it into this huge park);Building - old enough to give it an air of respectability (nothing is really old in Christchurch, unless you are a geologist);Ambience - stilled furniture and assorted (Spanish) music;Service - European-like, top;Prices - high, but not over the top;Drinks - good selection of wines and some Spanish beer on tap;Food - marvellous, varied, tasty, with a feeling of home made.I invite you to challenge my taste!
