Zibaldone

I had never visited this establishment before, despite the fact that I have lived in Durbanville for a very long time and had only heard good reports. When friends suggested that we have a meal there, I looked forward to the experience. It has been going for years and this is always a good sign. The decor is surprisingly simple and I personally found the ambience to be slightly lacking.Be that as it may, the welcome was professional and the service was good throughout. My meal (a seafood pasta that arrived in foil to retain the flavour/juices) was very good. However, it was the reaction of the other five members of the party that forced me to award Zibaldone an extra star : they all raved about their food.We took our own wine and paid corkage. I cannot remember how much it was. All in all, a very pleasant evening was had by all.

I found this amazing place hidden away off the main road in Durbanville.Inside a fabric and soft furnishing showroom nestles an awesome eatery of surprising sophistication. It's like finding fifty bucks down the back of your sofa when you are expecting small change. Don't know how anyone knows it is here, but they must do as it had a nice buzz going with a nice crowd of clearly happy customers. It's a light meal kind of place, and the meal I had was excellent, a bacon rosti stack. They have great coffee. Very friendly but not over the top staff and a wonderful chef, Eva, who speaks to every table and makes you feel so welcome. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods and feeling peckish, you will be very pleasantly surprised. This team clearly has some culinary depth and I think great things are going to happen here. There are also some visually impressive looking cakes going on there and the baked cheese cake I had for dessert was the best I have ever had and I have had many. The only downside, they don't do dinner and it's BYO on the booze or I would be camping here several nights a week. Did I mention that they have the best genuine ciabatta which they bake themselves daily. I am talking the real deal here, not some flaccid factory loaf. I would flesh out the light and healthy menu with some meat and fish offerings for the man beasts amongst us. It's also almost ludicrously inexpensive compared to Cape Town. Just go, before everyone finds out. You won't be sorry. Ask for Eva. She will style you up.

If you just want a plain no frills meal then they do okay. Our sever was polite but not very good. We had to request bread as none was brought to our table. Then my daughter's meal arrived well before mine. Not good timing and this is not good enough. Both meals were nice but nothing special. But what really upset me was the fact that such a large chain store serving FISH is still providing PLASTIC straws. I mean everybody knows this is so bad for the ocean and should be stopped immediately. when I asked the manager about it, he said they still use the plastic but he would mention it to Head Office. I wont be back as the whole attitude was one of disinterest in the customer.Hey there shellyschoeman, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. If you could please send us your details and feedback via our website so we can contact you directly to resolve this matter. The OB Team
