Stopped in Atienza to see the town. When asking about restaurants we were directed to Alfonso VIII. What a fantastic find! Atmosphere, service, and food were all exceptional. We ate lunch and found the Menu del Dia to be a superb value considering the quality of entire experience.

We enjoyed our meal which was simple but good and modestly priced good value for money. Pleasant and patient waitress coping well with our lack of Spanish.

El Pesebre

Cozy, whose wall is built on ancient wall of the XII century, and still keeps the crib inside. Cozy and homely atmosphere with variety in portions, and a typical menu of products and local dishes, seasonal mushrooms, bacon, roast kid (on request), migas .

Much of the menu was not available. The meat came with a garnish of two pieces of tinned pimento. When we asked for chips or veg and were told they had no potatoes! We asked for a mixed salad to go with, were told that it was 'offered' but it appeared on the bill which was 97€ for two with a bottle of cheap wine and two glasses of wine.
