Find out what Korean restaurants to try in Kapolei. Kapolei, named for the volcanic cone Pu'u o Kapolei (loosely meaning "hill of beloved Kapo"), is locally known as Oahu's "second city" after Honolulu. Built on former sugarcane and pineapple plantations, Kapolei is an affluent and vibrant city that is growing rapidly. It has an ever-changing urban scene as well as the Ko Olina resort and marina community and the Disney Aulani Resort. Sportsmen can play a round of golf at the Ko Olina Golf Club before a sophisticated evening on the town.

Kapolei Korean Barbecue

I've gotten meat and fish jun here, both good. I think the cucumber kimchi is outstanding although my Korean friend tells me the reason the cukes are so fresh and crisp is that they're not fermented for very long. Cabbage - not so great. Macaroni salad is tasty. It's all served in take-out containers whether you dine in or not.

New restaurant to try while on Oahu. It was located in Kapolei Commons shopping center. Clean and great wait staff. Staff knowledgeable and recommended dishes that had usual ingredients but made dish delicious and tasty. Though they didn’t have ahi that day the kalbi beef which staff recommended was outstanding. The chicken cooked in duck fat was moist and delicious. With Kim chee rice as added side which complimented the dish. The price was for lunch time menu.

Being on a short vacation here has to maximize the time I had and a chance to go to a lot of good restaurants. Luckily, I have a sister in law who is expert on this. She reserved the place for a celebration. We dined with the whole family and I really enjoyed the foods we ordered. One specialty recommended was the fried chicken which was really tasty and similar to one famous food chain in our local restaurants. The service was really good. The place is neat but a bit noisy like a bar.

Bonchon Chicken

Everyone loves fried chicken, especially Korean fried chicken. Bonchon just opened up a few days ago in the food court at Ka Makana Ali'i. First of all, be prepared for a wait. We were quoted a 50 minute to an hour wait and yes it did take that long. The chicken is made to order and was fresh. I would say after they work things out, it will probably take 20 minutes or so. There are a few tables to sit inside or you can take your chicken outside to eat in the food court. They have more than chicken by the way in case you don't want chicken. They have other items like shrimp shumai, bulgogi and japchae. Their portions are on the smaller side. Now about the chicken. They have drums, wings and strips (yay!). You can choose spicy or soy garlic. And you get a side of pickled radish with each order of chicken. They do have popcorn chicken too. I was disappointed with the popcorn chicken. The pieces were really small and you couldn't even taste anything but crispy batter. It came with a kim chee mayo sauce and a honey molasses sauce. I tried the chicken sliders with the soy garlic boneless chicken. The chicken had a nice light crispy batter and was moist but the bun was hard and there was a lot of cabbage. They also have sides such as kim chee slaw, pickled radish and kim chee of course. The pickled radish is a nice complement and I'm sure it's even better with the spicy chicken (unfortunately I don't eat spicy). Despite the wait, the workers were all really nice. Why 3 stars? I thought the chicken was ok compared to all the hype and the place is pricey. The other menu items were also disappointing. I'm teetering between a 2.5-3 star rating. I think they have some things to work out but you should definitely give them a try. I will wait awhile before I come back to try other things. But stick to the chicken. ********Bonchon chicken timeHappy that they have boneless Freshly made crispy
