This is an honest assessment of my experience tonight at Charming Garden. It's not a gripe-fest, but unfortunately there isn't a lot to report that's positive.Ever have one of those evenings when some good Chinese, Japanese or Thai food was the only way to go? That was tonight for me. I had looked forward to going back to Charming Garden for the first time in a while. BIG mistake.First, I'll say that the service was OK (the only reason I didn't give the restaurant one star rather than two) . . . no problems. That being said, the food was just plain awful. Steamed vegetable dumplings were heavy, thick and soggy. My entree was chicken with mixed vegetables, and I had asked that one particular vegetable be omitted. It wasn't. The chicken was noticeably undercooked. Most of the vegetables were somewhere between room temperature and cold. Spring rolls were soft and greasy with oil pooled on the exterior, not crisp. Basically, I ate the dumplings and almost none of the rest . . . declined a doggie bag, too.NOT recommended. Go elsewhere.

We were greeted with indifference & seated immediately. They have a fairly extensive menu & our server was quite impatient for us to order. The food is good. The presentation is pleasing to the eye. The prices are a bit high. The servers are all young kids.

Went inside for take out. Wait staff was somewhat friendly. Took my order and I paid. Was going to run an errand and return so I asked for a receipt since I did pay. She said NO it will come with the food. Thought that was weird. What if she forgot or wasn't there and asked me to pay again?!Anyway - I ordered the chicken and broccoli with fried rice in lieu of white rice. It was OK but not as good as other places like in Hightstown a bit bland to me. I didn't really feel full and I thought the prices were higher than other places. There was plenty of broccoli but not too much chicken which was also super thin and had fat.I did reheat leftovers the 2nd day and I think it was actually better.

We went for sashimi and the quality was excellent. Selection a bit limited (by my standards) but more than adequate for a good meal. Beef negi starter was a bit overdone (dry) and lacked sparkle. Ambiance was very pleasant and noise levels suitable for easy conversation. Service was warm and professional. Excellent quality/price rapport. Next time I'll try the Korean BBQ.

We visited this restaurant today hoping for a good bowl of Pho Soup and were disappointed. Mostly beef flavored soup with a few slices of well done beef and a couple of red ( Not Hot) peppers with some greens. We have had this soup in Vietnam and here locally and this doesn't compare. Also had sushi - spicy tuna roll which was good but warm room temperature. Service was fair.
