We learn that in Japanese culture sushi is considered an art form because its appearance is just as important as how it tastes. After all, âartâ is defined as the âarrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements that affects the senses of beauty.â So, we can see exactly how and why sushi is art â both at a practical and functional level â that you eat. The âart,â or sushi, entices you, appeals to your sight; your sense of touch and your taste buds. The Lobby Lounge and RawBar in Fairmont Pacific Rim brings all of this together in a beautiful, luxurious package. The general lobby area of the aptly named Lobby Lounge brings your dining experience to a whole new level. During the day, natural light pours in through the atrium windows, providing diners with gorgeous views of Vancouverâs bustling downtown. At night, the Lobby Lounge is transformed into a magically upbeat yet relaxing atmosphere suitable for casual pub eats and truly exquisite Japanese cuisine. Live music dazzles your hearing; the subdued lighting hints at the excellence yet to come; the high marble columns and strategically placed fireplace creates an atmosphere unmatched for dining. While there is a plethora of attractive items on the sushi menu, Iâve largely been a creature of habit. Whenever dining here, Iâve typically stuck to ordering the Smoked Sablefish & Bacon Miso and the Sushi Moriawase. Miso soup is typically a given on any sushi menu and itâs usually a one-note kind of thing; however, the fantastic chefs at the Pacific Rimâs RawBar have upped the ante by going beyond mere miso and including rich and flaky sablefish & bacon. I was initially hesitant about the sablefish, because itâs a naturally rich item, but it works so exceptionally well with the miso that I donât know if I can ever go back to regular miso soup. Add in the bacon dashi â with its hints of smoky flavour â and you get a soup that is unmatched. Likewise, the sushi moriawase serves as a good introduction to the many flavours available at RawBar: 4 pieces of California roll, 3 pieces of spicy tuna roll and 4 pieces of salmon motoyaki round out the selection. Restrained embellishments bring dimension and sparkle to the fore and the result is unparalleled. FOOD: 5/5SERVICE: 5/5VALUE: 5/5RECOMMENDATION: The Fairmont brand has established itself as something of a symbol for refinement and elegance of the highest order. The Pacific Rimâs Lobby Lounge & RawBar keeps such a mission and vision held high through their service and food offerings. The opulence of the space amplifies and magnifies the beautiful and rich simplicity of the food. Highly recommended!PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!âThank you for your feedback on TripAdvisor; we really appreciate it. I'm always on the lookout for sashimi. And this is the best I've had in Vancouver. I ordered the Deluxe assorted sashimi, and it was perfect. A good variety, nice portions, excellent quality. Everything to make me a very happy customer!

I really don't know what everyone is talking about with this place. It really isn't up to fine standards. It took 10 minutes for anyone to greet us and take a drink order. The pain was just starting. The oysters were inedible. I am amazed as they are local but tasted like a septic tank. We sent them back and got equally inedible replacements. The saving grace was the sushi which was decent. The wine was poured in tiny glases. You are much better off getting a bottle. The rest of the meal was poor to average . The ambiance was great as was the location but poor service and food don't make up for it. If you are looking for an outdoor seafood restaurant with a good raw bar look elsewhere.Dear valued guest,Thank you so much for taking the time to review Ancora. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not live up to your expectations. The oysters has been a great hit among our patrons so your feedback will certainly be passed along to the chefs and their team to ensure that the dishes are being made with consistency. We will also follow up with the servers in regards to the wine. If given the opportunity we would love to host you again soon and give you the amazing experience that we are so proud to offer here at Ancora.Again, thank you for your feedback and if you have any other further questions, comments or concerns, please feel to contact us at [email protected] Sincerely,Kelly Jordan HamiltonSales and Marketing Manager

I travel to Vancouver often for business and finally had an open evening to try Kissa Tanto. The wait did not disappoint. The restaurant is located in the not-so-nice part of Chinatown populated with the homeless and drug addicts. The juxtaposition of a beautifully designed restaurant in this neighborhood is quite a contrast. The menu is a fusion of Italian and Japanese cuisines and as a result some of the menu is quite creative altough I found the best of my meal was the creamy and rich Tajarin which is a traditional pasta from the Piedmont region of Italy. The Gem Lettuce salad was excellent and it is nice to see a restaurant still doing something creative with this wonderful lettuce by adding Tokyo turnip, farro and lamb pancetta. My main course was the Berezan Prawns. What is special about these prawns is that they are produced by the Berezan shrimp company in Langley, British Columbia and Berezan uses eco-friendly farming methods which means the prawns are pesticide free with no antibiotics. I enjoyed my meal and the service was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend Kissa Tanto to my friends and family.

This place busy so I would advised to book. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs prepare our sushi. The fish was very fresh and the salmon sashimi was amazing. Will return next time we are in Vancouver.

We specialize in Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, which was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly to sushi enhances the natural flavours and textures of the fish, creating a new and exciting culinary experience. Miku own
We had a wonderful and most delicious lunch unfortunately the round face Asian girl who kept clearing our table disappointed us. Why must she remove every item immediately disturbing our lunch. Most annoying was she cleared my husbands dish even before he put his chopsticks down. Then she stood beside me hoping to remove my plate as I was just picking my last piece of sushi. I had to tell her to stop, but she still cleared and wipe the table while I was still eating. We both found this most annoying and we brought the rating down 2 notches. Looks like she was a server in a wanton shop before joining Miku. Can some one teach her proper service as when to take away the dishes..

Was visiting with my husband and stepdaughter who studied abroad in japan for 6 months. She said it truly reminded her of the Izakaya that she remembered during her time living in Japan. We waited about 10 minutes and were seated at the center dining table which is long and shared. She is vegetarian and ordered edamame, the fried corn, and rice balls (which is just Onigiri). My husband had the Kobe beef and I had one of the specials called Hell Chicken and it was EXTREMELY spicy. We also ordered a green salad which was delicious and enough for 2 people. This was a delightful place for dinner and I highly recommend!

"This place is temporarily closed." Currently closed for renovation.
Our experience at Shizen Ya on Broadway started with a friendly greeting from the charming staff. The service continued to be excellent throughout and the food was reasonably good. I liked the concept of the brown rice sushi and would definitely eat it again. Overall however I found the food to be a bit bland with an over-reliance on spinach and avocado.
