Discover Restaurants offering the best Japanese food in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Community of Madrid, Spain. San Lorenzo de El Escorial is home to the Monastery of El Escorial, a World Heritage site. This huge complex was built as a monument to commemorate the Spanish victory over the French in the battle of Saint Quentin. Construction lasted 21 years and when it was finished in 1584, the Monastery was the largest building in the world, with 24 km (14.9 mi) of corridors. The building includes a library, Kings' Courtyard, Basilica, and the Palace of Felipe II. The Kings' Pantheon is the burial place for most of the kings of Spain since Carlos I. The Monastery is decorated with works by the most prominent Italian and Spanish painters of the time. Look for works by Titian, Bosch, El Greco, and Velázquez, especially El Greco’s painting of "The Martyrdom of St. Maurice.”

Japanese cuisine is not just sushi and makis. At Yamaoka they bring together a new look at japanse food: tuna and avocado tartar, seaweed salad, teriyaki beef, vegetables tempura... The gourmet menu has all this and more: between 5 and 7 courses plus dessert, and they change it often enough so we have to keep going again and again. It's 20 euros plus drinks ( they serve Asahi beer), and unlike gourmet menus anywhere else, you won't leave with an empty belly.Anyway, the menu is long enough and you can order a la carte as well. They have an inner terrace, not visible from outside.

I have visited Kokokara several times since 2013 and every visit has been consistently excellent. The rice is always a good indicator of a sushi chef's skills and they consistently make excellent sushi rice which perfectly complements the fresh cuts of fish to make every mouthful a celebration of eastern flavours. There is a handy guide for guests to eat their nigiri and maki by hand, with good humour. The restaurant is small, so making a reservation is a must. They also prepare for take away which is always handy. The waiters are pleasant and professional, the chef is a very jolly and always wearing an authentic smile.Highly recommended for sushi lovers, they also de excellent soups, noodles and other specialities.Enjoy!

We hiked up to look at the abandoned Variety Theater at the top of this old part of the town, and we find... a Japanese bar with hot sake! Perfect on a cold, windy night. They serve a minimalist menu of home-made Japanese fare, but sadly we´d already eaten! Still, I recommend any little family-run hole-in-the-wall place like this, a standout in a town full of touristy fare.

I'm a big fan of Japanese food since my family is Japanese. Luckily, I have this restaurant close by. There is a great variety of food to choose. My favorites are the oinarizushi and the avocado tartare. Mind the cloth you are wearing. Because the kitchen is opened and communicating with the eating area, the odor sticks to your garments, though it is a mere detail compared to the good experience of eating there. It's Japanese-owned and it makes all the difference when compared to the restaurants in Madrid owned by Chinese. The food is not bad, but it is not true Japanese either.
