Award winning Tendon (Tempura Donburi) from Asakusa Tokyo to Rayong ! We bring you authentic Tendon with more than 128 years of history with recipes passed down through 5 generations of Tempura masters
I went there because I was craving a Tonkatsu. Seems like they are specializing in Tendon, Tempura and sushi. I will make sure to try it next time because their Tonkatsu was top notch. The presentation could be improved but the taste is there. If the rest of the menu is that good I might become a regular. Itâs a bit more expensive than other mall restaurants but totally worth it.

Tuna Ichiban has been open for a year but it wasn't until today when a Thai friend took me there that I knew about it.What a find!It is in an air conditioned office block on Sukhumvit Road, the main street through Rayong. It is stylishly decorated with quality bowls, plates and accessories on the tables. With a flair for the original, the menu is on an I-pads fixed to the table, and on individual I-pads handed out by the waitresses. You scroll through the menu, looking at the photographs and prices and place your order. The prices were so reasonable we went a little overboard. We had a platter of sashimi with tuna, salmon, saba and white salmon, Aburi Salmon Roll, Gyoza, Unagi Nigiri, Ebiko Nigiri, prawn tempura and a whole barbecued squid.Everything was superbly fresh and flavorsome. The service was quick, friendly and professional. The kitchen and preparation area are open to the restaurant, which gives you a sense of well being when you see the immaculately white clad young Thai chefs preparing your orders. Interestingly, they are trained by a Japanese master chef from Bangkok, who comes down occasionally to make sure standards are maintained. The whole bill, with a jug of Ashahi beer and a large pitcher of green tea, was Baht 1,400. While that sounds expensive by Thai standards, it is about half the price you would pay at the other two Japanese restaurants in Rayong, so I have graded it as "cheap eats".

Since I last reviewed Fuji, two other Japanese restaurants have opened in Rayong. Today's visit back to Fuji confirmed that while it is the mid-priced restaurant of the three, it is the best in terms of freshness, quality and presentation of its sushi and sashimi. In fact, the presentations of the fish with the sliced and carved vegetables on the dish is so much like a work of art that we were almost reluctant to spoil it by starting eating.Today's highlight, for me, was the tuna sashimi, six thin slices of tuna so fresh it was almost jumping off the plate.
Orchard Restaurant is one of two in-house restaurants at Kameo Grand Hotel in the heart of Rayong. It is here that the hotel offers one of the most extensive breakfast spreads I have seen in a hotel anywhere. Breads and pastries, fruit and fruit juices, Western and Asian foods, smoked salmon, a cheese board, and a station where eggs are cooked to order. But it also serves lunch and dinner, offering a mixture of international, Thai and Japanese dishes.I enjoyed a light lunch of delightfully fresh sashimi, consisting of salmon, tuna and saba, with a wasabi and soy dipping sauce.Staff are professional, attentive and welcoming.Thank you for your very kind words on your meals at the Orchard Restaurant at Kameo Grand Hotel, Rayong. It is very rewarding to read of your satisfaction with the quality of the food and the service you received. We look forward very much to serving you again in the future. Yours sincerely, The Management of the Orchard Restaurant Rayong. At Cape and Kantary Hotels, we actively support SOS Childrenâs Villages and the Thai Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
