Reviews on Japanese food in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The shrines and temples of Nikko have been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Here, you can visit the Toshogu Shrine, which dates from the 17th century and is a monument to (and the mausoleum of) Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of a shogunate that ruled Japan for 250 years. Travelers day-tripping from Tokyo generally focus on the sacred sites, but if you have extra time, explore the area’s beautiful waterfalls and lakes.

We feasted on rice and grilled skewers selected from a wealth of choices that include meats, seafood, vegetables, and even ginkgo nuts. The scallop and pork loin were particularly good. The menu also offers soups, steaks, and many side dishes. This "beer restaurant" does not brew beer but does have a wider selection than most otherwise comparable Japanese restaurants: the selection includes about 14 international brews and some locals.
Yakisoba is one of the representative foods of Japan.
We accidentally ended up here for diner as many restaurants were closed already (18.15 hrs)Very friendly staf, excellent freshly made noodlesHowever was also closed when we left before 19.00, so be in time

Nikko has wonderful nature but it lacks in restaurants, pubs and cafés which are still open after 6pm. We stumbled across this little restaurant when searching for one which should have been open. And what a little gem it is! Really tasty dishes and super friendly staff. Okay their English is not good (mine isn't either, sorry) but they compensate with everything else. This little place (6 tables) should get the attention it deserves. We left with our tummies filled and a great big smile on our faces!

Stumbled across this place on my way back from Zenko-ji temple to Nikko train station. Was served a delightful 6 course meal featuring yuba - a local specialty - made from the skin that forms while you boil soy milk. It's a soft, wobbly substance with a delicate flavour. Staff was welcoming and spoke enough English to explain the dishes to me.

This was so far the best japanese food experience. Highly recommended! We had only one selection of food (organic vegetables) but everything was so fresh, tasty and in japanese style. Coffee was great too. Once in Nikko definitely take a look you wont be dissapointed. Enjoy!

Our shop is located at the entrance of world heritage sunlight. In order to mainly entertain a foreign visitor, I take out a sunlight noted product "soy-milk-skin dish" and home cooking of Japan with a cheap price. You can also respond and enjoy vegetaria
After spending the morning walking down from the 3 main UNESCO Nikko sights, we saw this inviting restaurant as we walked down from the Shinkyo Bridge. Although it was fully busy, the front window table just opened and we were happy to sit. A smiling lady presented our menus, poured glasses of ice water and presented wash towelettes with chopsticks. After ordering 2 different front page "Yakitori" meals, our grape Juice and Zero Beer arrived. As we met our neighboring table mates, our trays of noodles, rice and chicken arrived. Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted great and was filling, a tribute to the 3 busy cooks and our attentive waitress. We noted the Japanese style dining room making our way to the clean restrooms in the rear. Great restaurant for day tourists like us for $24 cash.

This place serves really great ramen. Based on reviews I read, both my husband and I had the one with leeks. The gyozas were also really great. We went on the earlier side for dinner and were able to walk right in although all the seats were taken by the time we left. I think we will likely go back again because it was so good. Our server was really nice as well. A super choice in Nikko. It is located on the main street and close to both the Tobu and JR stations if you are heading back to Tokyo or elsewhere after your meal.
