We went there for lunch, and, there being four of us, we had a private dining stall. We told the waiter immediately that one of us had a train to catch by a certain time. It was impressive that not only did he say that they will try their best, but when the waitress came after him she already had been told by the waiter about our situation. This kind of coordination cannot be taken for granted. The meat was cooked on the table by us, each at his/her pace. It was most tender. We also ordered a bottle of cold local sake ("Ishida Mitsunari"), of which we drank only half, not wanting to get too tipsy in the middle of the day) but took the remainder home with us. even the dessert (not part of traditional Japanese menu) was great - sakura flavored pudding of some sort, an elegant hybrid of East and West. The member of our group who had to catch a train made it on time.
It serves good funa sushi, which tastes like cheese and wine due to fermentation. Definitely worth a try if you visit nagahama besides trying beef. The chef is very polite and friendly.

Chose this place based on reviews!Didn't disappoint!Hard to get to if you don't have a car but the ayu are farmed on site! You can try these sweet fish in any way imaginable! We had the baked fish along with the sushi and the fried version. The restaurant is very traditional inside...lots of little rooms and low tables!Well worth a visit if you go to Nagahama by car.

Torikita is located in Kurokabe-square, one of the famous sightseeing spots in Shiga Pref.Whenever I visit there at lunch time, I see people who form a long line in front of the eatery.Although it has a wide variety of menus, most of visitors place an order for Oyako-don, Torikita's special.I had been interested in it but I wasn't tolerant enough to wait.Oyako-don is a bowl of rice topped with boiled chicken and eggs.Incidentally, Oyako means parent and child; Oyako-don is named after chicken and eggs. When we visited there at 16:30 no one was standing in a line, so we could enter the eatery without waiting. The difference between the Oyakodon and ordinary one is that former is topped with raw egg.If you are not big fan of raw egg, you can replace it with a boiled egg by telling staff "nikomi" when you place an order.Maybe I had expected too much, so I was less moved than I had thought.Definitely it's an affordable eatery and staff are amiable but I wonder if it deserves to wait for a long time.

Yokaro occupies an atmospheric traditional wooden building in the old quarter of Nagahama. Diners sit at small low tables on the mat floor. Marinaded braised mackerel served on noodles is the speciality here, and it's very tasty. There is a picture menu. The restaurant closes early: so this is more a lunch than a dinner venue.

Visited here on business. Was looking for another place but saw the lights on and two blokes walk in so we decided to give it a shot. Glad we did. We were welcomed and we sat at the ‘bar’. There were six or seven stools round the bar kitchen area and two tables. Nobody spoke English so I winged it with a translate app. The locals were so welcoming and we felt at home. Then a local who had lived in Australia came in and we were treated like one of the gang. A local bought us a beer and offered us whiskey. A great night and great food.
