Discover Restaurants offering the best Japanese food in Los Alamitos, California, United States. Los Alamitos ("The Little Cottonwoods" in Spanish) is a small city in Orange County, California. The city was incorporated in March 1960. The population was 11,449 at the 2010 census, down from 11,536 at the 2000 census. It is often mistakenly thought to include the adjacent but unincorporated community of Rossmoor (population just under 11,000), which uses Los Alamitos as its mailing address. The Los Alamitos Race Course is also widely believed to be in the city; although it does have a Los Alamitos postal address and zip code, it actually lies in the neighboring city of Cypress.

Waitress didn't speak English very well so communication was strained. Food was saturated in sauce and sushi we ordered was different than our regular place. We had a coupon but no need to go back in our opinion.

You walk into Sango and order at the counter. Their Japanese food is very good. You can order beef, chicken, salmon, shrimp, and sushi. If you eat there, they will bring your food to the table. Quiet. Small restaurant. Sushi chef is making the sushi at the counter. We also take-out from there a lot.

The black cod at a highly rated and expensive Japanese restaurant at Caesar's in Vegas was good. However, we found a better version right in our neighborhood in Cypress for half the price! Cypress may be known as hometown of erstwhile golf wonder Tiger Woods and for foodies, the US HQ of House Foods (Curry House, ubiquitous tofu packages sold at supermarkets, and partner of BCD Korean Tofu House), among others, I believe Cafe Hiro deserves greater name recognition. The entire menu with many choices is REALLY reasonably priced. E.g.: no menu-listed entrees over $30. Food quality and preparation are very good. We found out after seated that the chef was off on this Tuesday evening when we visited; the place was crowded nonetheless and our dishes were delicious. For appetizer, we ordered crisp whole dried shrimps, the daily special, (4 huge tasty shrimps with heads on for $8), Tofu salad, black cod, sea bass, spinach mushroom pasta and sea urchin pasta. The entree fish dishes came with salad (greens with yummy miso dressing, and pumpkin soup (too watery and lukewarm for my taste) served in a cup inexplicably without a saucer underneath. The atmosphere in this small restaurant (about a dozen tables) was nice. Service was adequate. I canât wait to go back again to try the Kurobuta (black pig) Pork.

We met family here to celebrate Christmas and enjoy good food. Our chef was very entertaining and the food was prepared well. Every now and then it's fun to do tepan as one can usually talk across the cooking surface and enjoy food too. The steak was cooked to order, shrimp was done fine, some ordered lobster which was underdone a bit. Overall it's a bit pricey for what you get but OK.
