After 2 years in Tokyo, I decided to create a restaurant - tea place based on places I loved in the Japanese capital. Aoyama is born with the desire to share with you what I liked in Tokyo in terms of gastronomy, atmosphere and service. During lunch and d
Went there with 4 friends a few weeks ago. The restaurant is lovely and the staff very welcoming. Aoyama offers one Ichiju sansai menu (so basically, you chose one soup + 3 small dishes) served with one bowl of rice. All dishes are pre-cooked and served when ordered. We all ordered one menu with a (homemade) dessert. Since we were 5 and ordered different dishes I had the opportunity to taste almost everything that night: food quality varied a lot between dishes, ranging from good to below average. Desserts (Yuzu tiramisu) was good. What does not vary is the quantity which is extremely small for all dishes. Given that the menu costs 15⬠(without drinks or dessert), I felt very frustrated when I left the restaurant having eaten a menu I did not really enjoy, and I was still hungry and ready to go somewhere else for a second dinner (ended up having a snack later that night).I was very enthusiastic when I found out that this restaurant opened, finding good (and actual) japanese food is virtually impossible in Lille ... I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and ended up hugely disappointed. The five of us were. We might have been unlucky that night, but I won't risk to give it another go.I encourage the owners in their effort to bring real japanese food in Lille, but I also strongly encourage them to find a way to make bigger portions. This place seems to have a bit of success which is good for them, and I hope it will encourage other/different japanese restaurants to open in the future.PS: if you are curious about japanese toilets and never had the opportunity to experience one, they have one. To the best of my knowledge, this might be the only one in Lille.Dear Sylvain, Thank you very much for your comment on our restaurant. We try to ask all of of our customers about their experience at the restaurant since we believe it is best way to discuss those matters at the moment. It would have been the perfect opportunity to tell us your opinion and try to compensate for your dissapointment right away.Iâm sorry you were still hungry after your full menu + dessert, we have generally had good comments on the size of our portions and the consistency of the quality we serve; and I can confidently say that this is an isolated case, for which we invite you to give us another try, for our new monthey menu, and be surprised with our new dishes. If you are one for larger portions we also offer the chance to ask for extra dishes for just 3,5⬠each, so you will never go out hungry. It is the Japanese belief that customers should never leave the restaurant « packed »; yet we offer something for everyone. Our price reflects several aspects of our offer, like an assortment of imported products from Japan, Japanese china, Japanese toilet, and many other that impact the price of our menu, but also the quality of your experience. Still, we try to keep our prices competitive as compared to other Lillois restaurants. We kindly invite you to come back, and give Aoyama another shot, weâll make sure it's perfect for you this time: customer satisfaction is, and has always been our main priority. The Aoyama Team

A small Japanese place, offering good and fresh products. The service is probably the best I have ever had: very kind and nice and helpful. A tad expensive, but it is worth it.

Discover and enjoy a Japanese home cooking. A unique and memorable experience with friends, colleagues or family.
Passed by as it was closed for the afternoon and decided to return for dinner. Read that there have been queues before so luckily we grabbed a table for two prime dinner time as a walk-in.Cosy and relaxing space. Beautiful, minimalistic interiors and great service. Quality of the fish was super. Salmon and tuna a highlight. The tuna tartare for sure was a favourite. The set meals looked great (also a vegetarian option), although we opted for a-la-carte to share. Rolls weren't too heavy on the rice and the fish in the rainbow roll was designed beautifully. Great great dinner and desserts looked wonderful too although we were too stuffed to try. Great value for price.Would highly recommend and definitely go again. Suggest to make a booking ahead for larger groups as tables are limited.
