We are regulars here but have noticed the bento box special and regular has shrunk significantly. Sneaky!!!We left hungry and unsatisfied.We won't be going back!!!Still expensive but you should pay for what you are served not leave so hungry. Plenty of other options in Glenferrie Road!

I went in February to for my wedding anniversary, upon arrival I didnât receive the friendliest greeting. I was then shown to our seats. A waitress then offered to bring us some drinks, since I am not a drinker I asked for coke, which to my surprise the waitress did not seem to understand me. I asked her for a drinks menu and pointed to the word coke. She came back puzzled, so I chose another non alcoholic drink from the menu. Finally the sushi theatre started. You can tell the chefs are all experienced. The food was excellent but I was very disappointed with the service they provided. The chefs was giving his full attention to the Japanese couple that was sitting next to us, all night they were speaking in Japanese. The chef patiently explained to the Japanese couple each and every dish, with us he just gave us the name of the fish and went straight back to the Japanese couple. Needless to say me and my husband did not enjoy the dinner at all. I don't think weâll ever return.

I did some research before visiting and was glad I did. The informal setup and attentive staff make the atmosphere relaxed. The real winner, though, is the ramen. It was excellent and totally worth a return visit the next day!

UPDATEÂ A new operator ... great presentation ... why not seasoned those Prawn Tempura?Wafu Steak made of sliced meat, first time for everything, not medium rare as ordered, instead well done on the hotplate. Had not been here for two years. Signs of decline by the twelve clients at lunch and the sullen waitress. We ordered from the daily specials ,the spinach salad was overdressed and messy,the eel sushi was flaccid tasteless encased in gluggy rice,the crumbed whiting was over cooked and the prawn tempura was greasy. Why would you bother!

I have been going to Samurai for years for their unbelievable three-course set meal menu. Since the new renovations, and an upgrade to the touchscreen system (which is fun in its own right), unfortunately this meal deal is no longer available, much to my disappointment. The venue is fresh and lively, and welcoming. The food is of its usual excellent quality, and the prices are still reasonable (but not what I had been experiencing for so long in the past). The sushi is still delicious, but sadly I will no longer travel here just for that purpose. I still recommend this place, if you live nearby.
