Torigo Japanese Restaurant

Local hidden gem!!! Unbelievable service (sit at the bar), unmatched quality on Long Island/Queens and completely unexpected. If you live in the area, do yourself a favor and eat here or order take out (quality is not lost, somehow). If you dont live in the area, do yourself a favor and make the trip. Let them feed you. Some of the best sushi I have ever eaten!

Shintaro Japanese Restaurant

Let's be honest...an "ok" restaurant with a ethnic specialty slant is ALWAYS welcomed in a small town. Any place that offers a healthy meal, at a fair price, with a well positioned lunch menu deserves some praise. Shintaro does all of that. It's not great...but it certainly is FAR from bad...and...the freshness aspect coupled to the more-than friendly and very courteous service deserves commendation.

I totally did not expect such a wonderful place on Covert Ave! Just color me, pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is beautiful and intimate; the service is prompt and attentive...and the dishes, superb. I've only been there 3x but am definitely making this my go-to neighborhood sushi spot. I am refraining from saying too much because I don't really want to share this gem. BTW, don't go by the address listed here, it is 78 Covert Ave but it's in Stewart Manor, not Garden City.

Nova Asian Bistro

We were not pleased at all with our take out order. Had specifically requested that our dishes be spicy and not too much chicken on our dish and the woman who took the phone order wrote down less spicy and we had more chicken than vegetables. If the chicken, if that’s what it was, would’ve been of good quality white meat..then perhaps we would not have been so disappointed. The lack of flavor didn’t help either. They pride themselves on a “menu that bursts with flavor” and all we tasted was oily and bland and not spicy at all as requested. Their Tom Yum soup was not the authentic wonderful flavors we’ve experienced in other Thai restaurants...although they claim to be a fusion of Chinese, Japanese and Thai...everything about our dishes screamed Chinese. Also, their portion of the rice that came with the order was smaller than even a take out Chinese place would give. Rice is cheap...why skimp on that? In any event, we will not return as we learned that when an establishment tries to come across as fusion...most of the time it will not be of the best quality. This restaurant came across more Chinese and their Thai and Japanese were just a poor imitation.
