Very straightforward place. Wait in line outside, then wait in line inside, then place your order once you're at the front of the line, and sit down at one of 18 seats inside to have your meal. The set meal I had was the large roast katsu (950 yen), and it includes miso soup, a small salad, and a rather large serving of rice. Fresh katsu, regrettably a little gristly on the sides and could easily have been trimmed better. However overall taste was great. English menu is available upon request, most Japanese people inside just read the menu which is printed on the wall but only in Japanese.

Got here for a late lunch and avoided any potential crowd. We were greeted and welcomed by a nice (non-English speaking) lady, who provided us with an English menu. Do try the legendary pork katsu, even if you donât like fried food, because this one is crunchy yet it melts in your mouth right away. Simply amazing!

After a morning of wandering through the wonderful madness of Akihabara we stopped by this nearby place for a much needed lunch break. We were lucky enough to get a couple of seats at a four-top table almost immediately and were only joined by another couple much later in the meal. But no doubt about it, this place is popular with the locals. English was not spoken when we were there, but there is a convenient English menu with pictures that helped bridge that gap. We had the soba with duck broth and the soba with Wagyu beef broth and tempura shrimp and shared a large bottle of beer. You can also substitute udon for soba on request if you like, but the soba (made in house of course) is the star here. Quite simply, this was some of the best soba we have ever enjoyed and we really enjoyed taking our time to enjoy this delicious lunch. At no point did we feel rushed by the very friendly staff and the ambience overall felt very neighbourly. If you are looking for simple but tasty food while in the area, you will certainly enjoy the food here.

All the dishes of "Ishikawa" are really great. There are many fine Japanese restaurants in the Japan, but there are few opportunities to meet these great dishes. All of the dishes are simply refined, deep and delicate. There are a lot of dishes finished up to 90%, but if you want to meet a 100% tasting dish, there is no better restaurant than "Ishikawa".Mr. Ishikawa says that he will repeat the prototype dozens of times until the finished image of the dish.He continues his genius and constant efforts in cooking. The great thing about this place is that a number of young members are coming up.Mr. Ishikawa says a joke, but seems to be an Oriental philosopher who pursues the truth.Reservations are difficult, but don't miss out if you have the opportunity.

Japanese people take their food seriously. It's like they're doing business with their appetite. The line can get pretty long here, but it does move fast, so don't worry.Udon here is very tasty. It is silky smooth, chewy, and delicious. I also got chicken tempura and it was really tasty. I don't like undercooked chicken, but this chicken tempura was quite good it burned my tongue (I was hungry, ok).If you're looking for a great udon joint in Tokyo, try this one. Authentic, well-made udon. 5/5.

Very popular "Gyukatsu" (beef cutlet) restaurant that now runs 6 branches in Tokyo (as of October 2016). Note that Shibuya branches are always very crowded and you should expect to wait for an hour or so, I'd suggest you get there 30-60 minutes prior or g
At first its hard to find it, you have to go down to b1 under street level. Restaurant it small and usally a que outside so you might have to que a bit. The restaurant serves traditional kaiseki food. Although our menu was supposed to contain meat, we managed to get a fish-only option, which was absolutely amazing! I was also told they can prepare a fully vegetarian course if booked in advance.Beautiful location and very fine dining for a great experience.

It's only fitting to have eaten the best tonkatsu in Japan, or anything Japanese for that matter. Featured in Tokyo's Michelin Guide 2016, Takayoshi Takeuchi's mastery of the "low temperature frying" technique has garnered quite the followers Marugo has to date, both locals and tourists. Now, don't let the line outside deter you because I promise you the wait is worthwhile.I say go with the Set Menu, that's what we did. It includes a bowl of rice, red miso soup, and pickles. And if you want a second bowl of rice or extra cabbage, just say - "Okawari kudasai!"TONKATSU (Â¥2,100) -- I got the pork medallions vs. the pork loin cutlet as I wanted the convenience of eating each piece dipped in different sauces (tonkatsu sauce, no sauce, or just a squirt of lemon and some salt). If you ask what I prefer, it's hard to pick. I enjoyed them all individually because the fact of the matter is, the tonkatsu itself is golden - literally! The breading was outstanding while the meat inside was marvelously melt-in-your-mouth good. It's unreal! Anyway you eat it, the taste remains superb.Their house tonkatsu sauce deserves a shout out. I love how it's so well-balanced with the tartness and sweetness that it doesn't mask the beautiful pork, if anything, it elevates it in new heights. The red miso soup is rather unique with a bolder and heartier taste profile compared to what we're accustomed to. I dig it, a lot! As for the cabbage, it just works in this meal, period. Knock yourself out with the orange colored dressing on the table. Heck, even the rice is a mastery. Okawari Kudasai, for sure! CHICKEN-KATSU (Â¥1,450) -- I try to avoid poultry if I can being both a carnivore and a seafood aficionado. After having a piece of the breaded white meat, I gave myself a second to stop and enjoy the moment of pure bliss. Did they just kill a chicken at the back and fry it? It's tender, juicy, and nothing like the chicken here in the States. If there's such thing as an A5 Miyazaki chicken, this would be it. Like anywhere in Japan, customer service is beyond amazing whether you are in a McDonald's or a fine dining establishment. And the craziest part? There's no tipping! I'm blown away that up to this day, I'm still reminiscing about the heavenly meal I had here.

I just finished my meal here and I have to say the steaks (and service) are amazing! Our waiter explained the pricing and options right at the beginning and showed us our cuts before they were prepared. The Kobe beef was out of my price range this time around (~32g for $479), but the wagyu did not disappoint at all. My boyfriend and I shared the sirloin and tenderloin with the gratin and garlic rice sides. The meat was so flavorful we didnât even need the sauces that were available. Overall, we would definitely recommend :)
