I read somewhere that Bistro 29 changed hands recently. Evidently they kept the name, but changed the concept. Offerings of gumbo, fried catfish, sweet potato casserole and other home-cooking items did not fit the name. That said, the catfish was fried perfectly-crisp outside and moist inside. Husband enjoyed the red beans and rice and coleslaw sides and i liked the collard greens and sweet potatoes. No bread was served with the meal. Iced tea was very good. It was very quiet on a Tuesday evening, and service was good and attentive. I've read that it gets hectic on Friday Karaoke night. Plenty of parking in the back. Owned by an ex-Marine and his wife.

We had takeaway from here tonight after a recommendation from a local. The restaurant is not spectacular but has a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff seem friendly and the pizza came out quite quickly. We had the Rocky's special which was very tasty and a good size. We would definitely eat here again if we are ever back in 29 Palms.
