Find out what Italian restaurants to try in Tupiza. Tupiza is a city in Potosí Department, Bolivia. It is located at an elevation of about 2850 m. The population is 25,709 (2012 estimate). Tupiza and its environs are characterized by dramatic red escarpments which jut ruggedly skyward from the coarse, gray terrain; green agricultural land adjacent to the Tupiza River provides welcome respite from the otherwise arid, thorny surroundings. The area quebradas are susceptible to flash flood runoff from sudden cloudbursts.
Things to do in Tupiza
Be aware that there are several "ristorante italiana"s in Tupiza. This review is for the one 50m down the same street and on the same side as Hotel Mitru (which it appears to be from the photo). We ordered 3 meals - chicken, lasagna and veg lasagna which was what I had. I have never tasted anything in a restaurant so bad, or that looked as unappetising - a white lasagna with bits of green and orange in it, featuring cauliflower and carrot, with no evidence of cheese. Of the other two meals, the normal lasagne was OK (and at least LOOKED like lasagna) and the chicken was severely frost-burnt and dry. They didn't do desserts anyway, so went elsewhere. Avoid.

We rocked up as this place was opening so it was empty, one large room, basic, but inviting enough. We ordered the spaghetti carbonara and vegie lasagna, the carbonara was incredibly good. Perfectly aldente, good quality pancetta and tasted exactly as it did when we ate it in Italy. The lasagna was a little lacking in veggies for me, more corn than anything else, but was pleasant, hence the 4 star rating, the carbonara was one of the tastiest things we've eaten in 6 months in south America. The cost was average, I think the carbonara was around 32 bolivianos, the lasagna a little more. There were also pizzas on the menu and some other meat dishes.Basic Italian done really well.

Good Italian AND Mexicaan food! Very friendly. Good for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
They might not have the best food or the fastest service, but I liked this restaurant so I came here a couple of times during my stay in Tupiza. The restaurant is cosy and has a nice atmosphere.

Very low quality food at inflated tourist prices compared to other towns and cities. Ordered a vegetable pasta which had glue like tagliatelle and frozen cauliflower & broccoli florets constituted the âvegâ part which were so overcooked theyâd lost all shape and colour and were a soggy mess. I explained to the waiter and he cleared the plate so I could try a pizza instead. Really nothing to write home about, bland and dry base but verging on edible out of what I saw come out the kitchen. Upon paying they tried to charge me for both meals. I explained in Spanish that I donât speak the language and used google translate but just kept getting shouted at in Spanish. Strangely, at least 30 mins after finishing the second attempt of a meal, the kitchen hand brought out my two plates of uneaten/leftover food and left them on a table next to another customer. They are taking advantage of tourists being here for just one night and serving up rubbish food as they know they canât get repeat custom from short stay visitors. Very disappointed and would not recommend.
We order two dishes (both wit potato) and after 20 minutes they told us that they don't have potato, so we can order pasta or pizza. We order one big pizza instead. After 20 more minutes we saw that women went out and come back with bag of flour. After 30 more minutes we had our pizza. After waiting for hour and half and without toilet we had hurry with food and run home. They are really expensive for Bolivian restaurants.
Restaurante de comida rápida en Tupiza - Bolivia, con el Siguente Menù PIZZAS ITALIANAS, PIZZAS VEGETARIANAS, PASTAS ITALIANAS PASTAS VEGETARIANAS, SOPAS Y CREMAS, OMELETTES COMIDAS NACIONALES CON QUINUA, HAMBURGUESAS, SANDWICHS, SANDWICH TOSTADA, ENSALAD
Although the tomato soup isn't homemade (I would not recommend ordering it), we inmediately forgave them because of the fantastic fries! You will get a big portion for only 10 bolivianos and they were definitely the best we had during six months of traveling. Order it with a simple hamburger and you will have a great, inexpensive meal. Add to that the friendliness of the owners and good wifi, and you will not be sorry for choosing this place to eat.
