Tongeren is the oldest town in Belgium, as the only Roman administrative capital within the country's borders. As a Roman city, it was inhabited by the Tungri, and known as Atuatuca Tungrorum, it was the administrative centre of the Civitas Tungrorum district. The city is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network.

Gelegen in hartje Julianus; Kaart is zeer summier en is wat "flauwtjes" klaargemaakt , zonder veel smaak.Prachtig interieur, maar omwille van het mooie terrasweer toch buiten gegeten omdat er binnen niemand zat. Mijn zus en ik burrata salade gegeten , was wel lekker, maar erg prijzig . Mijn man nam pasta met zalm, was erg flauw bereid en niet echt Italiaanse keuken! Teleurgesteld!

My family found this place when visiting the market. It's just outside the main Sunday market area and had plenty of seating. The staff speaks multiple languages, and was extremely helpful! The food is honestly just out of this world for Italian dishes. All the Carbanara and the tortellini were so tasty and filling! Great portions as ell. Also, we got our daughter pizza and it was equally delicious. The restaurant is so by a church so you get nice church bells as you eat. We will be back here multiple times!!!

De eigenaars -koks waren niet aanwezig en werden geholpen door een beetje onhandige ' camariere ' . Hij deed erg zijn best en we werden ook nog eens goed bediend. Hij runde alleen de ganse zaak. In de keuken stond een jonge vrouw in de potten te roeren, ook gans alleen. Zij stoof van de ene kant naar de andere kant en alle eten werd op hetzelfde moment aan dezelfde tafel geserveerd ! Ket die avond toch 17 couverts. Chapeau !! Niet alleen op tijd maar ook zeer lekker. Zeer aangename eerste ervaring; Securo chè ritorno !

Goed ontvangen en zeer vriendelijk personeel. Het is een restaurant met een Grieks Italiaans keuken.de kaart is voldoende uitgebreid en je krijgt voldoende op je bord. Je wacht geen uren op je gerechten alles op zijn tijd en prijs kwaliteit is prima.

Allegedly a decent Italian, our experience was different. Went there in a group of 10 on a Friday night. Some of us were crammed into a nook under the staircase. As we were the only customers that night I wonder if it had not been possible to arrange the table differently. The suggestion (pasta vongole) was dry, there was hardly any tomato or olive oil on the plate, with a regular amount of vongole. Steak pizzaola was an average steak smothered in tomato sauce with sticky tagliatelle. The other dishes on the table looked none too enticing either. The price performance ratio was bad. I have eaten better Italian food at a more reasonable price. The wait service was correct, but unfriendly.

Went to this restaurant after online reservation (everything perfect with that!). Food was really tasty and served in good portions. We chose the carpaccio as a starter, that I really recommend! I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the kind service. My only observation goes to the waiting time for food, which was a little long, but that didn´t bother us. If you are in a rush, it may be a problem, though. All in all a big recommendation to this nice restaurant, right in the center of Tongeren!

Every now and then I crave a good aglio e olio and there's no cure but to visit De Ezel. This is a no frills, all chill dinner option that you can't miss out on. Ronny and his team provide tasty pasta for a good price and take pride in their wine selection. A complimentary brusschetta is included but feel free to order more. If you're not ready to go after dinner there's a wide range of board games and more wine to enjoy. For first-time visitors this hidden gem adds to our city's flair, for regulars it's a place to come home to.
