Tomatina takes a modern approach to traditional Italian recipes. While our pasta with made-from-scratch sauces and homemade pizza are customer favorites, Tomatina has become known for our signature piadine - fresh, hot flat-bread topped with cool salads,
we ate lunch here and enjoyed the freshly cooked meat pizza plus a chicken caesar salad.Service was good, and with a beer and lemonade, the bill of $40 was reasonable

Located in a very nice, upper middle class, downtown suburban neighborhood. The restaurant has high ceilings, with a very nice and welcoming staff. Got good service from our server. The appetizer and the Margherita pizza we ordered were both better than average. We had a very nice weekend experience overall.

The owner, Francesco and his wife , did a wonderful job with this restaurant. You'll notice that most of the diners and regulars whom the owners greeted warmly. The food is good. The sole piccata was very delicate and tasty, the veal marsala is equally tasty. The only thing is that I wish they use milk fed veal which would give the veal a smoother texture.

I recommend Nonna's Meatball sandwich. The sauce could have been a little more flavorful for my taste, but the meatballs and bread were excellent. The service was also outstanding. If you like cheesy garlic bread and red sauce, I recommend you try it. It was very good.Brandon,Thank you for recommending Windy Cityâs Nonnaâs Meatball Sandwich and Cheesy Garlic Bread--two of our favorite menu items that are often overlooked in favor of the pizza and bbq. We appreciate the 4 stars and look forward to serving you again soon!Best,Trish

Looking for something different for lunch, we headed for Vivace Restaurant at Belmont. Ambiance -Very comfortable cozy place. We sat in one of the booths in the far dining room with excellent view of the front window. Food - Bruschetta - Roma tomatoes, roasted yellow and red bell peppers, capers, and olive oil on crostini - very good and nice blend of flavorsFritto Misto - fried calamari and vegetables with smoked chili aioli - very crispy calamariKale Salad - baby kale, dried cranberry, roasted walnut halves, and cheese - great mixture of textureFish of the Day - salute snapper with garlic mashed potatoes and spinach - fish was fresh and deliciousService- Wait staff were efficient and courteous. They cane by several tines to refill the water or freshen the cup of coffee. Away from the usual downtown spots and mall lunch places, I enjoyed my LUNCH SPOT JEWEL... at Vivace Restaurant in Belmont.

Sole is a very small local Italian restaurant that seats about 30 people inside and about 12 outside under their heat lamps. It has kind of a straight forward, no non-sense vibe putting the emphasis on the food rather than the decor although it is clean, bright and attractively laid out. We've eaten there regularly and have never been disappointed whether having the pasta or meat dishes. The wine list is not extensive however their are some fairly priced good Italian Wines such as Chianti Classico Reserve and a nice Sangiavese. They set the table with a 'bottle' of chilled water, bread and tomato style dipping sauce. Waitresses are accommodating and friendly although they seem very busy. Reservations are almost always a must as we've seen groups turned away that did not have them. This would have gotten a 5 star were it not for the sometimes noisy customers in a small space. This is a hidden gem with fair prices and great food.

We wanted a snack before bedtime after a day of eating and socializing with extended family in the area. The "B" was a great choice. Free evening parking was just a step away in the San Mateo central parking garage. They had a duo of easy jazz musicians entertaining the room when the 3 of us arrived. We ordered decently priced and tasting Shiraz wine and 2 had large salads, a Caesar and a salmon and greens. We also ordered 1 order of brushetta, consisting of 4 large slices, each cut into 4 bites (16 pieces) making it easy to share among the table. We had the choice of a nice list of toppings, including 2 for which there was a $1 upcharge to the base price of $14 for the order. We ended up choosing 4 different toppings and really liked all our choices, especially prosciutto and fig on marscapone cheese. Our server was efficient and cheerful.

Great tapa place. Excellent charcuterie, pizza and pasta. Entree dish choices are limited but usually good. Make reservations, gets busy on weekends. Really worth a try if you are tired of Asian food in San Mateo.

We love coming to Rainbow Pizza in western San Mateo. First of all, the menu is enormous -- literally! In addition to having a wide selection of Greek and Italian specialties, the actual menu is gigantic and takes two hands to lift! The Greek pizza options are fantastic, and you'll almost certainly have leftovers the next day. Our favorites include the #7 with colossal black olives and gyro meat, as well as the vegetarian #11 with feta cheese, garlic and fresh tomatoes. Other preferred entrees include the rack of lamb -- which is some of the best lamb we've had on the Peninsula, the pastitsio, and the garides a la Santorini (baked prawns with feta). Any Italian dish that comes with garlic bread will be a hit at your table. The mezzes are all huge and ideal for sharing, and we find a half Greek salad is plenty for two of us to share. Service is solid, and the food usually takes quite a while to prepare...but it's worth the wait. Rainbow Pizza is closed on Sunday.

Gnocchi starter was great. Sage sauce and garlic was delicious. Had the pear ravioli which was very good. Wish there was more. Salad was a solid effort. Desert of affogato was fantastic. Others had the chicken parm, awesome and the veal. All enjoyed. Skimpy chicken portions but great flavors. Service was good despite a full house.
