Dined at La Pasta while on a one-night stopover in Bourges. It was a success. Near the centre of town, already full of local families when I arrived about 19.30, it was clearly a happy place. Despite the large number of customers, La Pasta's staff managed very well indeed. Pizzas were made to order in quick time, servers were friendly and helpful, and the pizza was excellent. There was a wide variety of toppings available, and we could purchase wine by the picher. Prices were reasonable. Not a posh restaurant by any means; but this is how pizzerias should be. Recommend wholeheartedly.

Somehow, in the midst of a beautiful medieval city, Pizz'Alberto manages to exist in rather unprepossessing surroundings. Don't be put off. It might be sited in a concrete cut-through but this is seriously worth a visit. Their pizzas are first class and just watching the crew work is an experience in itself. You can see people - regulars presumably - drop in just to say hi and have a hug. I don't think I have ever seen a staff work so quickly, slickly and seamlessly. Unsurprisingly, the place books out. If you want a table in the courtyard, be sure to make a reservation. Then again, the cheap seat by the pizza oven (mine that night, on my own on a motorcycle ride) gives the best view of what's going on. They do a thriving trade in take-outs.This is a place with real heart, which you'll quickly realise. It's not expensive and there's plenty to choose from. Expect a warm welcome and a great meal.

Le Venice is an excellent backstreet restaurant with a fairly broad menu in Bourges. It is a busy place which is clearly very popular with locals and visitors alike. We were stopping over in Bourges for the night and a search on tripadvisor threw up Le Venice as a possible venue for dinner. We were not disappointed. We arrived around 7.30p.m. without a reservation, but the very friendly and attentive staff immediately pulled us together a table on the open air terrace they have formed across the street. Indoor seating was also offered, but we took the outside option on a balmy evening. The restaurant does do Pizza's and does them very well, but they should take credit for having much more than that on offer. The salads that they have on the main menu are also excellent. A wide range of desserts are on offer. The wine list and drinks menu is extensive.A very nice relaxing unhurried meal in a very nice, quality restaurant with a real buzz about it.When in Bourges we will be back.
