Although we vacationed in Monterchi, we visited Poppi because we heard that the town was a great attraction. While taking in the beautiful vistas we happened upon the Alberto Ristorante Casentino! We only visited the restaurant - not the hotel, but if the restaurant is any indication - the hotel must be fantastic! The food here was exquisite! The atmosphere and wait staff were tremendous. Seven people had seven different entrees and no one was disappointed! Highly recommend the town of Poppi - and while you're there, stop in at the Albergo Ristorante Casentino to have a glass of wine and a great meal!

They advertise their panoramic dining room, which does have windows all around, but with a view of the road, is not really a panorama! We had a mushroom tagliatelle, which was a little over cooked, chicken breast in lemon sauce was a very small portion, and green beans, all over cooked in the Italian way. Most of our fellow diners were men, who had stopped as it is a roadside restaurant or manual workers. Very reasonable priced at â¬35 for two with house wine and coffee, but we then had to wait 20 minutes to pay our bill as the boss was busy!!!! We tried this restaurant as our neighbour goes frequently, but we could eat better at home.

Arriving in time to get one the outdoor tables with a nice view we were warmly welcomed. The menu is creative and different than the stand Italian fare. And oh how delicious. My husband had the tomato pasta with anchovies and pinenuts and it was perfectly delicious and lightly seasoned, no overwhelming fish taste. I had the crusted rare tuna with sauteed vegetables. This was one of our best meals in our two weeks in Italy.

The restaurant serves traditional Tuscan cooking: meat, mushrooms and home-made pasta. House specialities include traditional entrées, home-made main courses, prime quality meats and Tuscan types of cold pork meat such as ham, salami, finocchiona (fennel
Visited here twice over a week holiday in Poppi. The food is absolutely to die for. I had the tortelli de patate and the Mercurio pizza, and both were easily the best pizza and pasta dishes I had encountered in Italy. Food is ridiculously cheap also considering the fantastic quality of the food. One of the main reasons for returning other than the meals was the beautiful views surrounding the restaurant looking all over Poppi. Only reason I am not giving five stars is because the food did not come out at the same time so some people had finished eating when others food just arrived, and side dishes came out after our mains. Otherwise, a great experience. Would 100% return.

The hosts work hard to provide quality food at reasonable prices and always with good service. Its a favorite of ours when in Poppi

The reason for the many positive reviews are probably more a craving for a change of Italian fare of great pastas and wines that this region has to ofger rather than for the quality of this joint. Don't get me wrong, the beer is good (although nothing to compare with the top micro breweries) and desserts are not bad neither, but it goes downwards from that point. perhaps we should have sticked to safer options, but the stinco(pork shank) as well as chicken were very average. The service was also not great with waitresses forgetting a lot of things including drinks and cutlery. next time, I would stick to a few beers and perhaps some snacks, but definately no meals for me.

This place is well known for its great pizzas, pastas and cheerful stuff. Located in a very quiet place, among the trees of Casentino, and you will also be able to walk around this area

The Mater opened its doors in 2017, within the property of Borgo I Tre Baroni. The connection with Nature is evident: we are inside the Casentino Forest National Park, at the foot of the Hermitage and the Camaldoli Monastery. From the warm wooden floor to
Ristorante Mater can offer a unique experience to the most demanding gourmets. Their philosophy of drawing on Tuscan roots while enriching them with a surprisingly modern twist results in an real feast! I strongly recommend the degustation menu with wine tasting. It was amazing! Definitely worth its price.
