In 1947, The Pellicci family opened their restaurant in the Heart of Stamford, it is Italian West Side. By 1955, a loyal and expanding clientele made it necessary to enlarge our facilities and our menu which featured a secret family recipe for baked chick
Pellicci's a "red sauce" Southern Italian restaurant, is a longstanding neighborhood institution in Stamford, CT. First recommended by a lifelong Italian neighbor, we had been there twice nearly 25 years ago and were disappointed both times. We decided to try again for dinner this Saturday. Formerly dark and somber, the interior decor could use updating, but at least was now bright and well lit and the restaurant was filled with multigenerational families boisterously celebrating special occasions. Noise level aside, our booth was private enough.Service was prompt and efficient. Menus, water, bread and olive oil were delivered promptly and drink orders taken. The highlight of the meal, a tossed salad, was cold, crisp and refreshing, although neither the menu nor the waitress informed us of a $2 upcharge for a small thimble of gorgonzola cheese we chose for the dressing. We both ordered eggplant parmigiana. Two large plates arrived, napped by rather dark looking , watery sauce and barely any of the melted mozzarella cheese that normally tops the dish. The eggplant itself was dark and rubbery, and tasted a bit old. We concluded this is not a particularly popular dish and that our portions were probably prepared days before, refrigerated or frozen, and then reheated for us. Side dishes of vegetables were equally disappointing. Broccoli rabe, usually first boiled to reduce bitterness and then sauteed with garlic in olive oil, had merely been boiled or steamed. It was fresh and tasty, with lots of garlic, but came swimming in a half-inch of water with a few drops of olive oil. The string beans marinara were equally disappointing. Instead of being cooked in marinara sauce, they were barely blanched crisp-tender, then topped with a few tablespoons of sauce, and again, served in a bowl containing another half-inch of watery sauce.Except for the salad, this meal was every bit as disappointing as we had had at Pellicci's in the past. Having grown up in a neighborhood with Italian restaurants on nearly every street, I know good Southern Italian cooking firsthand. Once again, this did not match up at all. We skipped dessert and coffee and will not be returning.

Intimate, Family Owned Italian Hideaway Known For Its Reasonably Priced Italian American Cuisine Favorites. Located Next To The Hampton Inn Hotel, Villa Italia's Dinning Atmospheric Experience Will Make You Feel Comfortable And Relaxed. The Staff Is Frien
We have stayed at the Hampton Inn four times and never would have dreamed of going into Villa Italia which is on the ground floor. Why? Well, having lived in Italy for many years, I tend not to love American Italian restaurants. But, husband had shoulder surgery at HSS in Stamford and we went straight to hotel after his release. We had lunch and were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful flavor of our hot sandwiches on delicious crusty bread. So we decided to go back for dinner and WOW....really WOW!! He had lasagna and I had Spaghetti Amatriciana, one of my favorite pastas in Rome. We were both delighted by the amazing flavor of our respective dishes. So worth having and now we are dreaming about going back and we were just there on Tuesday! We had excellent servers at both meals and it was just such a pleasant (and yummy) experience. I highly recommend trying Villa Italia - there is a romantic section, a Sports Bar section, a business meeting section and easy eating at the bar.

Went here recently and ordered one of the NewYork style pizza's - it was good but way too big (plenty for leftovers) - would have preferred if they had different sizes you could buy as a smaller version for 1 would be better. You can buy by the slice but nothing better than a freshly made pizza straight out of the oven. They were doing a good trade with locals so must be doing something right.

We go a few times a year, usually a drink and snack at the bar. Today it was the pizza. The wood oven gives the crust a light char and the toppings were great. Sitting at the bar, service is always great.

I was most impressed with the Charcuterie, you definitely can settle for the smaller size, as the portions are very large. For my entree I ordered the Carbonara. It was creamy, and the clearly handmade pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. It was very busy on the night of our visit, and Iâd say sitting next to the bar was noisy and detracted from the overall enjoyment.

Valbella, which since 1992 has been a celebratory place and a regular haunt for the locals who pack it most nights of the week both for its sumptuous food and its astonishing wine cellar, containing 1,450 selections and 16,000 bottles. Downstairs in the
This a very refined and elegant place , we booked for 15 on the wed before thanksgiving , 5 kids , and 11 adults. . The valet parking very professional , the manager lead us a a big table for fifteen( white table cloth ) , in a almost room only had two smaller tables ( as we dined early at 530 pm , the room essentially was private. . Our waiter Met and bellboy just took care of us exclusively . The kids were a bit noisy , but we were away from main dining room .The wine list is superb , all the best labels and vintage . We ordered a Italian Red Oreno ( 125 ) and a White French Meursalt (175 ). Both superb . The menu is of excellent quality , added the specials of White Alba Truffle and Soufflé made the meal special. The kids got different pastas , we tried different dishes , chicken , steak , Chilean sea bass , cold sea food platter ( lobster shrimp crab ) , veal chop , veal scaloppini, salmon , all superb . The white truffle pasta tableside shaved was perfect ( much better price than in NYC ). We finished with chocolate lava cakes , and soufflé for many . Wonderfuk meal for family gathering. ,good the kids (3-9) can learn what a refined dining place is

The food is great and you feel like you have been warped over to Italy in this cute village restaurant with attentive service. The kitchen is a bit slow, so don't expect a quick meal, but it always comes out tasty and they are eager to please. Pasta dishes are terrific and they have a nice wine selection.Thank you so much! We are so happy you enjoyed the food and the wine! Please come again soon!

Great restaurant, friendly service - the food is delicious. The only problem is their funky reservation policy--they don't take them for parties under 5 people on the weekends but they DO take them for all during the week (or something like that) which has led to some confusion.
