We both enjoyed our meals in pleasant surroundings on a wet Sunday evening in April. Although the restaurant was very busy, the service was excellent. My pasta meal and my wife's veal meal were well executed Italian meals a large proportions and there was a well priced and thought out wine list.In our mind this restaurant is now on our list and a competitor with our 'other' favourite Italian restaurant.

Well what a fantastic surprise Luigi has now decided to open on Sunday nights ( maybe itâs to pay for his new sons education ) I can never get a table on Friday or Saturday nights . So visited tonight and we shared The best Garlic prawns . Even served in the 80s cast iron pots you could ask for .. simply Devine . Order bread to go with the prawns ...Next a stunning dish I have never had before ... A pork cutlet so big it almost fell of the plate covered in pan roasted cashews, almonds , dried raisins and slithers of apple this was served with their normal vegetables of carrots, potatoes and beans . Maybe this could be my last meal on earth .... And my friend had lemon veal and veggies , again a perfect meal ... I simply donât know how he does it for the price ..... Love the restaurant and the great friendly team members . Maybe having a new addition to his family has inspired Luigi ... simply love this down to earth restaurant But remember no credit cards and BYO

So we were visiting friends back in my home town of Newcastle for the weekend, and they took us here for dinner. They had booked a table, but it was inside, and it was extremely noisy inside! We asked if we could be moved to an outside table, and eventually we were. Service was friendly, but it was hit and miss. You had to make yourself known that you needed attention, no point in sitting back quietly in such a busy place like this. We chose various pizzas for our meal, but there were other Italian dishes you could also have chosen. Our pizzas were all delicious, various combinations of toppings, many traditional and some a bit unique, but all were very fresh and tasty. If I was a local I would have been more than happy to return to maybe try a pasta next time. Worth a visit!

Interesting industrial ambience with dim lighting. A great space popular with locals. A varied menu. I would come back for the delicious mushroom pizza with truffle oil.

My girlfriend and I had lunch here and two weeks later my Husband and I also ate here. Both times the food was excellent and the staff members were pleasant and very friendly. I can thoroughly recommend their pancakes as they are absolutely wonderful. Loved eating here and would certainly return.

Visited this establishment at the suggestion of a family member who had previously enjoyed dinner here.Unfortunately we left a little disappointed. One family member enjoyed their veal whilst another enjoyed their fish dish. However it was the pasta dishes which were very disappointing especially the carbonara where I needed a search party to look for the seafood . The sauces with the pastas were bland and almost tasteless. Very disappointing all round.Service was very good.H'mmm not sure whether we'll return or not!

Coal River & Co is a relaxed dining experience & we aim to ensures you enjoy a memorable food experience every time with our fresh made pastas and daily specials
What great Italian food. Simple but perfectly cooked. This restaurant is just a small hole in a wall, but produces food to die for. The wine list is limited but adequate. Tables are packed in but that adds to the Italian atmosphere. A great find!
