For pranzo di lavoro (workman's lunch), it's a great deal -- 12 euros for three courses including wine and coffee. Generally filled with local workman, it's a family run restaurant where you will have a genuine Italian experience, although there is not much atmosphere to speak of..

A local family run restaurant with down to earth food, a great lunch spot for local workers. No menu just sit down and you will be served with an assortment of home cooked food and wine.

Wonderful dining experience in this out of the way family run restaurant in a hilltop village. The food was exceptional as was the service. It was evident that everything was locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Two hours passed by and we were all extremely full. Two bottles of wine and plenty of chilled water with coffee to finish from a four course meal coming in at â¬25 a head. A lovely experience.

Lovely little place, in a small village with no English people, 1 waitress with limited English language to help you order of your not familiar with the lingo. Food is good and reasonably priced.I'm sure you could have a better taste of Italy if you can speak Italian!!No rush with anything which was nice, locals start filling the restaurant around 20:30 onwards and does get busy.

Hard to fault anything here in terms of food, service, setting, charm...... Everything. Stefano is a fine chef with his delightful sister Tania a charming, competent front of house operator. Agroturismo means the combination of Agriculture and Tourism so they grow all their own vegetables and fruit and rear their own meat. Totally zero miles involved in the process of getting the food from field to table. However if you are a non meat eater by prior arrangement they can buy in some local fish. As an Agroturismo they can buy in up 20% of the menu, although at Il Grillo they try not to do so. If you find yourself in the Garfagnana which is a treat in itself make the effort to et here and you will not be disappointed

We came last year and had wonderful food, so it was with trepidation that we again made the pilgrimage to this small, very friendly hostelry. We need not have worried Carolina and family continue to provide simple but perfectly cooked food. Today for example I had spiral pasta with zucchini, slices of beef with a tomato, garlic sauce served with vegetables and the most exquisite sweet mini pickled onions. All this accompanied by carafes of very drinkable red and white wine. To finish we shared Carolina's fantastically light( I am not exaggerating ) tiramisu which is a dish to please the most jaded palate. Go there, try it and I promise you that you will never be disappointed. To add to the pleasure everyone makes you very welcome and the small size of the bill will astonish you. GO.

Great pizza, great wine, great service. We went as a group of friends on a recommendation, and had a great evening with some of the best pizza available in the area!

We had lunch here last year and were so impressed by the food and the lovely views, we decided to do a stop over en route to Napels. We were not disappointed. The food was once again of high quality, the views as lovely as ever, the owners as friendly as last year and the wifi worked. The room was a bit old fashioned, but large and very clean.

The scenery along the 445 road from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana north is breath-taking and you'll want to savour it. An ideal place to stop is at Passo dei Carpinelli where an old building has been tastefully renovated and local produce is in abundance, and presented with enthusiasm by the young owners. You can choose from a huge array local meats and cheeses, breads, foccaccia and savoury tarts baked on the premises, local pastas, wines and beers as well as superb coffee, of course. You can get sumptuously filled rolls to take away or you can eat hot and cold platters inside or out on the terrace overlooking that stunning view.

We spent only one night there, but we would highly recommend it: the restaurant and the apartment were just amazing. And what was really surprising was the service: we arrived there late in the evening (around 10 pm) and they asked us what we wanted to eat, so they prepare a delicious salad with some antipasti, which was heaven for us. The attention was super, the place absolutely peaceful and charming.
