Down a side street off the Okaido Arcade, I probably wouldn't have noticed Da Bocciano, if it wasn't for the fact that I exited my hotel (ANA Crowne Plaza) via the back entrance. Pleasant Pizzeria with a traditional wood-burning pizza oven serving an enjoyable pizza in pleasant surroundings. The only drawback, however ..... I wandered in about 18:30 on a Tuesday evening when there were no other customers and consequently no 'atmosphere'. Somehow, Pizzeria seem a lot more "authentic" when they are bustling with customers and the fiery oven is spitting out pizzas every few minutes.

This branch of Salvatore Cuomo is located on the ground level of the Daiwa Roynet Hotel building, very near to the entrance for the famous Okaido shopping arcade.I had the pizza Margherita, which was hand- tossed dough, tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. It was perfectly cooked in their signature wood- fired oven and it was delicious. This was the second time I had eaten at a Salvatore Cuomo and I noticed right away that the menu had many different items compared to the first location. The restaurant décor has a lot of wood and is bright and inviting. The atmosphere was very lively, with a good mood about the place. This would be good for a small- to- medium (10 â 12) sized group. The food is great, and the service also very good.I highly recommend this location.

As a solo traveller using the ANA Crowne Plaza, Matsuyama as a base for 4-night whilst sightseeing around Shikoku; a combination of early starts and late returns to the hotel meant I did not get an opportunity to sample the Provence Restaurant for any meals. Returning to the hotel between 8:00 and 9:00pm one evening, however, I decided to head up to the 14th Floor and try the Provence Bar/Lounge. On exiting the lift I was informed of the cover charge (Y700) for using the Bar; if anything, this gave me the expectation that I was about to enter something really special.Quite the reverse. Whereas the Provence Restaurant looks out towards the Castle, the Bar/Lounge looks towards the South-West and the only thing of note in the middle distance is the Ferris Wheel on the roof of the Takashimaya Department Store at Matsuyamashi. Whilst patrons of the Tea Lounge in the 1st Floor Lobby are gently serenaded by a lady pianist until the Lounge closes at 7:00pm, the 14th Floor Bar/Lounge has no such background entertainment, so one wonders where the value of the "cover charge" lies.It is therefore disappointing to sit in an otherwise empty Bar/Lounge, totally devoid of any atmosphere whatsoever, then struggle to get the attention of absent barstaff in order to pay the bill (inclusive of cover charge!).

Where to eat Japanese food in Matsuyama: The Best Restaurants and Bars

The garden is attached to the Yamanote Hotel located across the street. Visited one year before but did not patronized the restaurant. This time I reserved a table for lunch by email beforehand. There are inside and outside seatings available. I chose an outside table because of good weather. But then you may have to bear with people smoking. For a very competitive price, you get a 5 course lunch, including appetizer, soup, main course of choices, dessert and coffee or tea. Portions are generally larger than average. I had a big breakfast that morning but can't resist to finish them all. It is generally difficult to find bad food in Japan. Next to the restaurant there is a glass museum with admission charge, a banquet hall for wedding, some artifacts, and a nice garden to walk around.
