L'Amore Ristorante

Reviewed By Sarah S

I heard good things about this place from a colleague and decided to give it a try. My husband and I ate here for our first anniversary. We made a reservation for around 6:30, and when we got there the restaurant was about half filled. We were sat at a round table that was a bit too big for just two people to have a quiet conversation. They had candles lit, which was romantic, except the lighting in the dining area was a bit too bright to do the candles justice.L'Amore has two different dining areas: one is decorated richly, with hardwood flooring, darker colors, and a warmer, more romantic atmosphere; the area where we were sat is apparently intended to look like "outside". It has astro-turf as carpet, and one wall is painted with a huge mural of what I guess is an Italian village. There are a lot of bright colors and sort of a children's area with plastic furniture and toys.Despite feeling like sort of a kitschy cafe, the service was terrific. Our waiter was really prompt and friendly and answered our questions about the food. The menu has Italian dish names with Polish and English descriptions. If you can, I recommend checking both the English and the Polish for what's in your dish, because not every English translation matched up with the Polish description. Before our food came out, a waitress brought a plate of something like flat bread, or a pizza without sauce. We dipped it in oil and it was a great start to the meal. For appetizers we had a bowl of tomato soup and the king prawns (Gamberetti in burro). For 26 PLN, we thought it would be enough to share, but it was a pretty small number of prawns with a huge helping of salad. Both the soup and the prawns were incredible in taste, though, and the soup was more than enough for one person. Our entrees were also delicious, but we felt like they were a little overpriced for the portion size. Each of our plates was about 50% covered in salad, which tasted good, but was unnecessary. I had the stuffed chicken breast (Filet L'amore), which was very tasty albeit a little small. It was served with an entire potato cut into slices. I have no idea why. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin with red onion marmalade (Filetto di maiale). The meat was really fresh and tender, and he liked it a lot, but also felt like his portion size was a little small for the price. They have a large selection of hot teas and a few dessert options, but we didn't try them. By the end of the meal, we were stuffed!Overall, I was pleased with L'Amore. The food and service were outstanding, but I was disappointed in the atmosphere and price. I would go back again to try some other things on the menu.

Ta pizza jest dla mnie w pierwszej trójce w mieście. Jest cieniutko zrównoważona w składnikach i pyszna. Naprawdę trzeba do nich zajrzeć i spróbować mega dobrej pizzy.

KILO MAKI

As my title suggests, our noses literally followed the scent of delicious, freshly baked pizza dough and led us to this restaurant. We took our seat and admittedly, it took a little while for a member of staff to acknowledge us and bring a menu over, despite there being 2 - 3 people behind the counter. Eventually a young lady with glasses brought the menus over. The menu was all in Polish but we were familiar with enough of the words to be able to make our choices (and had a translator on our phone for the words we were unsure of!)The menu is about 90 - 95% pizza with a few pasta dishes etc thrown in for good measure. My partner had decided on one of the pasta dishes but when it came to ordering, we were told there was no pasta that day so we ordered two large pizzas instead. And boy, were they large!!!In hindsight, the sizes of the pizza are clearly stated on the menu but we were hungry (greedy) and our poor table was barely big enough to hold the two ginormous pizzas that arrived. I ordered the Georgiano pizza with salami, smoked cottage cheese, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and red onion (I asked for no red onion and this wasn't a problem). My partner ordered the Americana which had chicken, mozzarella, paprika, stewed mushrooms, sweetcorn and onion (she also asked for no onion).Everything from the dough to the toppings were all freshly prepared (they import their ingredients from Italy) and the pizzas are made to order and served piping hot from the oven.We ordered a litre jug of orange juice, a still water and a bottle of Nestea for our drinks.Despite having a really good go at eating as much as we could, there was practically a whole pizza left at the end and our waitress asked us if we would like a take away box which was a nice touch but we declined (we were full to bursting!!!)The meal came to around 67 zly (approx £13) which I think was good value for the quality of ingredients and the amount of food we were given! The waitress forgot to charge me for one of the drinks but I was honest and paid for it. :pThere was a funny moment when 3 - 4 members of staff were hovering around the coffee machine. We couldn't decide if it was a training exercise for a new member of staff or whether the machine was broken and attempting to be fixed. Over the course of a 15 minute period, we saw a series of glasses filled with various different coffee drinks lined up along the counter by the till. We then saw these drinks eventually get taken over to a table of customers! They must have been freezing by the time they got there!!!So all in all, a decent little place that we would happily revisit - just give the coffee a miss ;)

The dishes I tried in this non flashy restaurant were great. The squid was a huge portion of salty, garlicy, grilled tastiness. It came with fresh spinach mixed with buttery fried potatoes. The lightly fried cod was slightly dry, but it's risotto was deep flavored and close to perfect. I'd come back in a flash.
