Daugavpils (Latvian pronunciation: [ˈdaʊɡaʊpils] ( listen); Latgalian: Daugpiļs [ˈdaʊkʲpʲilʲsʲ]; Russian: Даугавпилс [ˈdaʊɡəfpʲɪls]; see other names) is a city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city gets its name. Daugavpils literally means "Daugava Castle". It is the second largest city in the country after the capital Riga, which is located some 230 kilometres (143 miles) to its north-west. Daugavpils is located relatively close to Belarus and Lithuania (distances of 33 km (21 mi) and 25 km (16 mi) respectively), and some 120 km (75 mi) from the Latvian border with Russia. Daugavpils is a major railway junction and industrial centre and lies approximately midway between Riga and Minsk.

Where to eat Bar food in Daugavpils: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Bar and Casino chain âKlondaikaâ offers a wide variety of activities that will make your evening a lot more exciting and unforgettable. Including, live concerts, dance shows and competitions, karaoke, DJ`s from all over the world, wildest parties and diff
Well, what can be said? It's a Klondaika, the same as the one's in Riga except apparently in Daugavpils not even as good as that. However, unfortunately, Artilerijas Pagrabs is closed on Mondays, so after Ezitis Migla closes then Klondaika is virtually the only place in Daugavpils city centre to get a beer. We weren't exactly happy at the prospect, but it was better than just accepting nothing and going back to our rented room and drinking the beer and wine we had there (or was it? Actually that probably would have been better). The welcome as we walked through the door was hostile glares at best, from two Russian bouncers, their friends, and the apparently all-grumpy, all-Russian, all-female, bar staff. They rolled their eyes and snapped as us when we asked for the beer prices. My girlfriend's Russian and Latvian are both much better than mine, but she needed the bathroom and left me to collect the drinks. The black-haired barmaid brought them over to the table and walked off without a word. We had both ordered two different beers, so I called her back over and asked, in Russian, which is which. She snapped something in fast Russian and began to move off again. I apologised, again in Russian, and explained that my Russian is pretty bad, and asked if she would speak slower. Again, she snapped in fast Russian, simply raising the volume to be almost shouting, as if that would help me understand. Such was the service here.It began to get cold and dreary outside, so we moved back inside after the first round, where my girlfriend switched to an overpriced wine in an undersized glass. Staying outside may have been better, because there was a big gang of Russian teenagers occupying the jukebox with literally the worst music imaginable. Think wealthy American rappers rapping about how much sex they have and how many drugs they take, set to the most annoying background sound: that's pretty much the only kind of music we heard all night here - except for when they took a break to play basically the same music but in Russian instead of English. I don't know how much money the jukebox made that night, but we were there for around an hour and a half without it letting up, so it must have been profitable for the bar.The other thing profitable for Klondaika is that, as in Riga, they aren't legally a bar. They have a few fruit machines in a back room, so despite the fact that they are clearly a bar, they are licensed as a casino to get around the indoor smoking ban. At least, in Riga, they have separate sections - but not here. At least as well, at Klondaika in Riga the music is actually listenable, the staff are actually friendly, and you can actually get some half-decent food to go alongside your terrible lager. Not in Daugavpils though, apparently. I'd say the only reason I'd go back would be if it was the only bar open in the city, but then again, that's the only reason we went there in the first place anyway. I'll definitely be back in Artilerijas Pagrabs next time; though even Ezitis Migla, as another chain bar, would be better than another awful evening in Klondaika.
