It borders the smaller village of Nelsonville and Garrison. The central area of the village is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Cold Spring Historic District due to its many well-preserved 19th-century buildings, constructed to accommodate workers at the nearby West Point Foundry (itself a Registered Historic Place today). The town is the birthplace of General Gouverneur K. Warren, who was an important figure in the Union Army during the Civil War. The village, located in the Hudson Highlands, sits at the deepest point of the Hudson River, directly across from West Point. Cold Spring serves as a weekend getaway for many residents of New York City.

Had a lovely lunch with friends at Kathryn's. Since we were there mid week, it wasn't crowded. The menu selections are varied including vegan, and gluten-free choices. The food was good.

Anyone who's read my TA reviews knows I'm a fusspot about Italian food. Well, this picky reviewer loved the food at Nicola's. Service was excellent as well. This traditional, red sauce, family operated Italian restaurant serves the kind of food you'd expect from an Italian grandma's kitchen. Our party of three thoroughly enjoyed our lasagna, chicken parm and pasta with clam sauce. For dessert we ordered cannoli and bread pudding. Everything was delicious and fresh. Great hospitality and prices too. A nice find!

been coming up to cold spring every year for more than 40 years. A labor day weekend begins here with a visit. I will put this pizza against the best of NYC!

My wife, daughter and I had lunch today.The meal started with complimentary focaccia bread which was quite good.We shared the Arancine (saffron risotto balls with smoked mozarella & sweet peas)-Very good.We each had the Barbina Salad (baby argula, roasted beets, goat cheese & walnuts)-also very good. Our daughter had the shrimp added to her salad. I also had one slice of the Ortolana pizza (excellent) which consists of carmelized onions, roasted red pepper, cheese and eggplant.The restaurant is spotless and we will be returning.I come from a town in PA which bills itself as "The Pizza Capitol of the World" and today I had the best pizza since I left the area.
