You would think in a city of so many millions of people there would be many quality restaurants. In Chongqing there are thousands of "so so" restaurants but very few that stand out. This is one that does! Excellent, authentic Italian food at a price everybody can afford. We had a variety of different pastas, some excellent pizza, a bit of salad (not easy to find good salad in Chongqing) all washed down with some freshly squeezed juice. Couldn't fault it! If I was to be really picky I would ask the waitress(boss) to smile a bit more, but otherwise perfect! Not the easiest restaurant to spot though. Leave the Wanda Plaza via the exit next to Starbucks, walk straight (literally) across the square and take elevator number 8 to the first floor, the restaurant is on the right. Enjoy it!
Where to eat Bar food in Chongqing: The Best Restaurants and Bars
First, the restaurant is owned and run by Italians with Giacomo Galgani as the GM. We visited at lunch and had a pizza, pasta and salad and each was very good and tasty. The eatery is relatively new and Giacomo admitted that the pizza oven was being calibrated, which could have affected the pie, which was fine, except for the fact that my wife and I have enjoyed excellent pizza in Italy and the USA and this one did not measure up. The pasta was cooked right, but the sauce lacked the subtle layering of flavor one expects from Italian food, it was adequate but not great. The wait staff needs more training in how a Western restaurant meets the needs of the patron. The service was not attentive, which is normal for a Chinese restaurant, but unacceptable to Westeners eating at a Western place. We will return to Chongqing next year and give Signoria another chance. Maybe by this time all of the kinks will be worked out and it will impress.Bottom line: weary of Chinese food that ultimately all tastes the same - go see Giacomo and enjoy a decent meal.

What a lovely place to visit, such a lovely square and not overrun with tourist so able to spend time visiting the churches, museums, and places of interest, and then just sitting and enjoying the surroundings in one of the many little cafes, finishing off with a scrumptious Italian ice cream
