Immersed in the river park of the Casentino Forests. Typical dishes of the Tuscan tradition. Choice of appetizers, first and second courses prepared with fresh ingredients. Family management since 1950.
Ok, it's a secret because only the local Italians know how to find this restaurant is Stia. I admit to being off the beaten tourist track and was actually heading to Poppia for lunch but took a shortcut and ended upon Stia. Off course it was a Sunday, the Tuscan family day for lunch out and a quick look on TripAdvisor showed us this restaurant was close to the main piazza. It is hard to fine because it is in a park, next to the sports field, down a wooded path! But it is beautiful and well known for it's grilled specialties as the wood fired grill was in full flame on arrival. Solid Tuscan fare, well prepared in a cosy atmosphere. You know you've found a good Tuscan restaurant when all the neighbouring tables are speaking Italian. Take the road less travelled and have fun finding this gem of a restaurant. One warning, the washrooms are down a level and shared with the park, not the best!

The hosts work hard to provide quality food at reasonable prices and always with good service. Its a favorite of ours when in Poppi

We were for a holidays in this charming city Stia and this was our most favorite restaurant. Firstly because of the atmosphere, secondly the waitress who can speak English fluently (what is not so common in Italy). Food was really good and not very expensive.

Tried the restaurant as it is under new management, and we went with friends for Sunday Lunch. Locals had told us in advance that the portions were small, and the prices were higher than other restaurants in the area, so we thought that quality would be higher. However this was not the case. Fish main course was overcooked and my main stinco needed seasoning and would have been tastier with some jus. All main courses lacked colour which could have been added with garnish or sauce, and so were not appealing to look at. We did not have desserts. Cost with wine for 4 people was â¬129. This was higher than we would expect to pay in Stia-Pratovecchio. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Most diners appeared to be from out of town. Our friends agreed they would also not return.

The Mater opened its doors in 2017, within the property of Borgo I Tre Baroni. The connection with Nature is evident: we are inside the Casentino Forest National Park, at the foot of the Hermitage and the Camaldoli Monastery. From the warm wooden floor to
Ristorante Mater can offer a unique experience to the most demanding gourmets. Their philosophy of drawing on Tuscan roots while enriching them with a surprisingly modern twist results in an real feast! I strongly recommend the degustation menu with wine tasting. It was amazing! Definitely worth its price.

The reason for the many positive reviews are probably more a craving for a change of Italian fare of great pastas and wines that this region has to ofger rather than for the quality of this joint. Don't get me wrong, the beer is good (although nothing to compare with the top micro breweries) and desserts are not bad neither, but it goes downwards from that point. perhaps we should have sticked to safer options, but the stinco(pork shank) as well as chicken were very average. The service was also not great with waitresses forgetting a lot of things including drinks and cutlery. next time, I would stick to a few beers and perhaps some snacks, but definately no meals for me.

We had the best time in Tuscany here. Quality food, very nice staff and the restaurant was clean with a touch of Tuscan feel. The owners were very involved and with a big sense of humor. We went there twice during our vacation and would definitely come back again, certamente ! Mille grazie!

We fell upon this establishment on a quiet Sunday lunchtime. Itâs a small intimate place located on a cobbled street.Great service, great wine and wonderful Tuscan fare - and very reasonably priced.Would highly recommend anyone to eat in this place when passing through Poppi

Caranbar never fails to deliver a wonderful dining experience. The food is always delicious, the owner who is warm and gracious is always helpful with suggestions and accommodating for some minor substitutions and the wine menu is great. The "house" is a Rosso di Montalcino. You cannot beat the value.

The exhibit on Jacopo del Casentino in 2014 was the occasion for our visit to Pratovecchio, and we made our reservation at La Tana degli Orsi a month in advance. The menu offers a wide selection and there were specials too. The choice was not easy. While we awaited our first course, we looked around at all the teddy bears on the shelves. So thatâs where the name comes from! The hostess, Caterina, brought a delicious small tortina with cheese and nuts. We had been tempted by the fiori di zucca as our first course but decided that we had to have tortelli since we were in the Casentino. They were splendid. The delicate homemade pasta, like large hand-cut ravioli, was filled with pigeon meat and diced zucchini and served with butter and sage. One of our seconds was the spiedino di fattoria, which included pork, beef, veal, and chicken, all tender chunks just off the grill (and not overcooked), with a salad of olives, tomato, and potato. The other secondo was the scaloppa di baccala baked in aluminum foil with tomatoes, capers, black olives, and yoghurt. We did not order dessert but were served small coffee custards instead.Any visit to Pratovecchio MUST include La Tana degli Orsi, but advance reservation is essential. The management wisely restricts the number of diners to what the small staff can handle. We saw close to twenty people (not including the 35 teddy bears) but there was room for at least ten more. Nevertheless, during our meal the hostess politely turned away half a dozen people at the door.
