Things to do in Ashiya
すごく活気のあるお店で、ときどきお邪魔します。季節のおすすめとかもあってこの近辺ではお安い方だと思います。でも最近少ししつがおちてるのかなぁ、、、
Located on the main drag of Ashiya, right next to the JR train track. It is a wine bar plus brassiere restaurant. It has a chic, industrial, warehouse feel with an open kitchen. This looks good but makes for a very noisy restaurant. It boasts about a French wine list. While the wine list was decent, the surprise for our family was the wine prices. They were actually REASONABLE. We recognize some of the labels and are aware of the wholesale price, their markup was very little. We reserved a table, what we got was a picnic bench. They pitch it as 'family style' table but what invariably ends up being is sitting on a hard wooden bench. While if we were young hipsters, this might be acceptable but for our very senior citizen parents, this was very uncomfortable. Having to maneuver the 8x8x10 foot board so that our feet rests on something is really stupid. As for the meal, a few observations. Their uni pasta did not use fresh uni but used jarred preserved type. While this is not bad, the distinct taste of the pickling liquid was disappointing. On a negative note: their drinking water or the ice they use is stale. Their drinking water smells like refrigerator. On the positive note, the steak was done properly. Tender medium rare, seasoned correctly, it was a nice finish. That was really good.Would we go back? We probably will not make a special effort to go back but not against the idea. Their are very similar options nearby.
We stopped in on a Saturday despite my wife’s avoidance of gluten and dairy (which make Italian sometimes challenging for us). We were greeted promptly (and in English) in this very-Italian-looking restaurant. They asked thoughtful questions to arrive at a custom dish that my wife was pleased with. I had a nice salad with octopus, some great bread (thick, great crust, heavy), and a pasta with a smoked-salmon and cream sauce. Everything we ate was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing and appealing. We will be back!
If you want to feel like in Italy, run there. One of the best pizzas I had, and definitely the best I tasted in Kansai region, quite small restaurant but very friendly, with very good music and a nice staff !

Great food! This is a real Italian restaurant. Do not come here expecting pizzas - they don't serve any.We had the antipasto which was nothing to write home about. We also had their grilled steak which was very good but it can't be called anything special. What we did have was their poached fish. Half a whole fish with skin on, simple braised with white wine, olive oil and lots of butter. It was fantastic! Afterwards, they take the leftover sauce and they make a pasta dish out of it. What you get is the tastiest bit of pasta for the evening. We also had a couple of other pasta dishes but they just did not compare to that little bit of pasta we had after the main course. They do have a tiny patio and the Italian cook comes out to say hello to everyone. It is not fine dining destination, more of a country kitchen feel. Don't expect to just arrive and get seated, you need a reservation during peak hours. No designated parking spots but plenty of pay parking nearby. We are planning to come back.

It's a good restaurant and pizzas are very good and regular size (European size). Good atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend to make reservation because it's quite full. Prices are affordable. Just very few parking spaces available and a Times parking nearby.

We had lunch at Bellini. It was moderately expensive, but very delicious. The only negative comment I have is the toughness of the beef. Two of our party commented that the beef was chewy even though it was cooked on the medium rare side. But it was seasoned wonderfully and the sides complemented it perfectly. I especially enjoyed the potatoes with shaved truffle!! As usual the staff was top notch, speaking Japanese and English.
