Things to do in Ashkelon
I like the design of a place, the dishes and service. Dishes are really testy. A nice place to go with family or with friends. I would recommend this place to my friends
I'm proud to say that this review is quite longitudinal - I've been a customer of Nissim's place for nearly 30 years, and have been around the block a few times for comparison-sake.Falafel stands in Israel always claim to be "the best", "the king", etc. - but what really matters is freshness and quality. In this respect, I can whole-heartedly say that Nissim's place by far beats out the rest. Their freshness of pitas, salads, shawarma and falafel is unmatched. My father makes regular pilgrimages for his shakshouka; I crave their couscous and chicken on cold days (only served once a week!). And whatever you do, don't skip out on his enormous french-fry which he puts on top of his falafels! As far as location goes, he's adjacent to the Ashkelon bus station - there is usually traffic and some bus exhaust in the air, but on a calm afternoon you can sit under the Shiqma tree at one of his outdoor tables, and soak in the sun and people-watch with a great cheap meal.

I ate in this restaurant with two other friends - one Italian and one Israeli (I am American)-on April 2, 2018 on a Sunday evening at 8 PM. We chose this restaurant because we wanted to fish and it was one of the few on the Ashkelon boardwalk that was Kosher for Passover. One person in the party also had eaten there before and recommended it. When we arrived the restaurant was fairly crowded - there were some empty tables - and noisy, especially since the stereo speakers were blaring out some kind of disco music. We sat down at a dirty table that a waiter eventually cleaned off. He also took our orders and acquiesced to my request to lower the music. But as we waited we noticed that other patrons who arrived after us were being served their food, while we were not. At this point we complained and a different young man who spoke no English came to take our orders. As he did, he visibly put his fingers in his nose on at least two different occasions. After the first occasion, I reproached him. But he once again picked nose. He supposedly left with our orders. But after another 5 minutes a young woman came to our table to present us with a completely different menu with slightly higher prices, telling us that because of Passover everything cost more. Once again we gave her our orders. After that our fish finally arrived - it was very good and fresh, although at about $29 a plate with that included nothing else except some kosher for Passover bread and a few tiny plates of Israel salad it certainly wasn't cheap. There was no table cloth or even paper table mat.One more matter: at the sink to wash your hands the air dryer was not working and paper towels were not provided. When I complained that eventually put out toilet paper.

Location: east to the city of Ashkelon coordinates : 34.601983°, 31.660514°, close to road no 4.It contains 2 sections: âreal restaurantâ and a self service (kind of).my review concentrate on the self service. The system works as follow: you order and pay to the cashier, get a number and take by yourself the drinks and the first course like houmous. go to the table and latter on the waiter serves the main course to your table. The houmus was boring (no olive oil no Parsley). We ordered chicken breast (very good), and sheep skewer (a bit hard).avarage price: chicken breast (31 NIS, 8 $) , 2 sheep skewer (67 NIS , 17$),Coke Can (9 NIS, 2.3$) Houmus (19 NIS, 4.8$), vegetable salad (40NIS, 10.1$).There is a free Parking. Over all avarage place.

What this place lacks in high style ambience, it makes up in great home style cooking. I ordered the entrecote, which was tasty and tender, one of the best I've had. My wife had the Turkey Shishlik which she loved. Our guest ordered the goulash which she said was delicious and it came with wonderful sauce and great mashed potatoes. We also had an order of fries and a vegetable salad. The waitress was a true joy and exceptionally helpful. Special orders don't upset them. They also have a bar which we took advantage of. Prices were also reasonable, the three of us ate for 270.00 NIS (approx. $72 US. When in Ashkelon you gotta try this place.

Recently open one of the few Non Kosher establishments in Ashkelon. Large shaded outside seating area with great view on the Marina itself. Good food friendly efficient service, reasonable prices (taking into consideration that the prices in Israel are very high in comparison to USA and most European countries). I have ate there three times since the opening already and will definitely return for more.

My daughter had been here before and loved it. She was right. Food was delicious and service was great. I hope I get to Ashkelon again -- I would like to go back and taste other choices.

Archie's has a new menu with quite a few new dishes. The pizzas are excellent and the seafood dishes are yummy. The hamburgers are tops as before. There are some new draft beers to keep us interested. The atmosphere is fun. On the Friday evening that we were there, many families came with their children for dinner. The younger crowd comes later at night. The service is friendly and prompt. Next time we will sample their interesting sandwiches. You can not go wrong at Archie's!
