We had heard a lot about this place and had read the reviews. Our expectations were therefore raised. The service was particularly slow with a large portion of the wine consumed before our orders were taken. The menu was indeed extensive and looked promising however the end product did not live up to expectations. Unfortunately rather average. We have eaten in a large number of fish restaurants around the world but this one is some way off the pace. Closer to home the Boat House on the island of Gigha and Cafe Fish in Tobermory are hugely better. Overall not worth the drive to Kircubbin.HiThanks for taking the time to leave a review which has left us all quite shocked!I would love to hear from you to confirm when you dined with us, what you had that was rather average, to discuss the service as it does not ring any bells with our manager or supervisors who do not remember any diners waiting any length of time more than usual to place an order, or any diners who consumed a large portion of wine while waiting, or when checked while dining if there was any problems/issues with their chosen dishes.I'm delighted you have eaten in a lot of restaurants around the world but to say we are off the pace is laughable, we are booked well in advance, we serve only fresh local ingredients, we will keep doing what we do and we do very well, obviously the other diners who leave a review on tripadvisor do not know what they are talking about!By recommending to people the Boat House on the Island of Gigha and Cafe Fish in Tobermory (closer to home HELLO) you could maybe supply the ferry to get the customers from Northern Ireland over to Scotland.I look forward to hearing from you, please ring me on 028427 38222.CheersLeigh

The Dufferin Arms is famous throughout Northern Ireland for its great food, perfect Guinness, live music and the best craic that money just cannot buy! We pride ourselves in the friendly welcome that greets all our customers, come in a stranger, leave as
We enjoyed excellent food and a well stocked bar at this old, and busy pub. I had lamb which was very tender, and my wife and I shared a rhubarb apple crumble served with custard sauce and local vanilla ice cream. The trad music with six or seven musicians singing, playing guitars and a harpist, left no doubt that we were really in Ireland.

Im fairly well versed in steak sandwiches, and the one I had last week at the Pantry was second to none. I know how I like my meat - and I got exactly what I asked for (which, in my opinion, is a rarity in Northern Ireland as most places like to over-cook your order - assuming "she couldn't possibly have meant rare, we know best, lets give her medium-well done" and then ruining a perfectly good cut of beef that had the potential to be so much more! My husband and I enjoyed a shared starter that had such great flavours (goats cheese) and did exactly what a starter should do, got us ready for our main! We also had a dessert - the pavlova - it was perfect. I couldn't believe the quality of all 3 dishes - compliments to the chef. The whole experience was so much higher than I was expecting, from a little cafe/restaurant in little ol' Strangford. I will definitely be returning (today actually!...and bringing a friend!) The service was nice, and the prices very reasonable - in my opinion, if this place was in London/Belfast they could/would be charging much more!

We came here for a late lunch / early dinner after visiting Mount Stewart. I had the large bowl of seafood chowder served with wheaten bread. The chowder had a rich, creamy taste although I'd have preferred less potato and more seafood. The chowder was served in a wide, shallow bowl which looked very tempting, but served in a deeper bowl would have kept the food hot for longer. My wife's hake with garlic potatoes and samphire was served with a tangy, citrus mayonnaise which was delicious.

We came over from Isle of Man on a grey day. We were hungry so came straight to the Cuan as we have been well-fed here previously. Right up to our expectations, if anything even better than before. Prompt, friendly service, our beautifully cooked meals arrived in good time. Even our normally reticent crew member commented her meal was delicious, praise indeed! The usual welcoming atmosphere is still there, if anything slightly improved as we were earlier than our normal time so the restaurant was still only filling up. It all set us up nicely for a stroll around the coast path overlooking Audley's Roads and Castle Ward.

For a place that is only open three days a week this restaurant is superb. Great views, lovely friendly staff and delicious, good value food. You can either eat upstairs in the restaurant or a more limit menu in the bar downstairs.

Irish country pub serving great food, drink & craic with a relaxed informal style 7 days a week in a rural setting on the shores of Strangford Lough.
After reading great reviews on TA, I made a booking for my husband, grown-up daughter and myself for lunch before heading to Portaferry. We got a lovely welcome and given a choice of table which we picked looking out over the gardens. It was just after noon and lunch service was just beginning. Although quiet, the restaurant/bar had a cosy and relaxed atmosphere, we felt really comfortable and treated like old friends. Armed with wine and a beer the 3 of us decided on an assortment of starters, great decision. Three crumbed brie, two pulled beef sliders (tender beef, bbq sauce in a dinky wee brioche bun) and lightly battered mushrooms. Seriously good food, and plenty of it! As the restaurant started to fill, we were given time to enjoy our food, with attentive but unobtrusive service. This place is wonderful, friendly staff, lovely surroundings and outstanding food. Very resonable prices on drinks and food. Totally recommended. Thank you so much for your kind words, Gives us all a lift. i will ensure all the staff are aware. We hope to see you again soon and thanks for choosing the Brig. Cheers.
