We flew in from Osaka Itami airport and our small plane couldn't land due to fog. The runway is really short and there was no visibility. It circled the island three times and then went back to Kagoshima Airport and landed.I was panicking because I don't speak Japanese well and thought we had to fend for ourselves, but, but Japan Airlines kept us all together in a group, put us all on a bus to the ferry and then ferried us over. I got there 7 hours late (arrived at 7pm), but at least I got there the same day! JapanAirlines paid for the bus, the ferry and gave us each $50 for food. It worked out.We rented a car so I called the agency (Yes Yakushima) to let them know we were running late and when I got there the car lady was waiting happily for us. I saw a bunch of taxi drivers there too, helping get people to their destination since public transportation was closed for the night.It all worked out, so if you decide to fly in, this is what you can expect if your plane can't land.

We hit this place up after hiking to Taiko-Iwa rock in Shiratani, and we were starving! I got a cutlet and our friend got Udon and it was all delicious. What was even better though is that it has its own gift shop full of yakusugi trinkets and the visitor center is right next door and that place also has its own gift shop. I brought back the most adorable little charms from here. It's a great place to eat and buy gifts for family and friends back home.

The place is gorgeous, it is yet simple but very traditional and cosy! The food was really good and the service delightful. Last but not least it is insanely cheap for the quality offered. It was something around (1000 yens) 10 dollars for a full set!

The food served at this family-owned restaurant is of excellent quality and taste. We dined here for two nights and tried 4 different dishes -- all excellent. They are very reasonably priced too. The setting is pretty cosy too. The restaurant is near the bus-stop and starts around 5.30pm, so for those who don't drive, there is enough time for a good meal and catch the bus back to Mugio and Onoida.

There was this restaurant's business card at our accommodation, it looked good, but we were not expecting THIS good!!!!The chef suggestion were fabulous! You have to try the sashimi. We had the bonito and it was flawless. The squid and zucchinis is amazing too. Nice wine and beer selection. Great staff. Very friendly.
