Reviews on International food in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico. Uruapan is the second largest city in the Mexican state of Michoacán. It is located at the western edge of the Purépecha highlands, just to the east of the Tierra Caliente Region. Since the colonial period, it has been an important city economically due its location. The city was conquered by the Spanish in 1522, when the last Purépecha ruler fled the Pátzcuaro area to here. The modern city was laid out in 1534 by Friar Juan de San Miguel. It played an important role in the War of Independence, and was the capital of Michoacán during the French Intervention. Today it is the center of Mexico’s avocado growing region, with most of the crop distributed from here nationally and internationally.

El restaurante es pequeño, parte del hotel sin embargo cuenta con un poco mas de lo básico para un buen desayuno, lo mejor es la atención del personal.
This review is past due, but necessary for anyone visiting Uruapan, looking for yet another awesome and pleasant surprise!Kiki Restaurant is an excellent place. Upon my first visit to Uruapan, it came highly recommended, and for many good reasons. The interior space is inviting, relaxing, and a place to enjoy truly attentive service. **As an added bonus, a dish one may not expect to have accomplished in its real character is done with EXCELLENCE**. I ordered an Asian dish, and was astounded with the flavor, the texture of the rice, and the overall value of the meal. Please put this restaurant on the g.p.s. / post it note / TO DO list and enjoy. You'll know what I mean, and you'll be back more than once.

I arrived here cranky-hungry and the menu offered plenty of possibilities for rectifying the situation, but I quickly decided upon an omelette, and it was one of the best I've had anywhere. Have popped in for coffee on a few other occasions in Uruapan, so I consider this a good dependable and friendly place, right on the plaza.

This is an outstanding restaurant. Clean, spacious, good decor, indoor or outdoor seating, excellent service, good prices and ... outstanding dishes. A wide range of steak dishes of the highest quality. I have tried many ... and the most interesting ... is APORREADILLO, a traditional dish from the nearby Apatzingan region.Mariachis present on occasion. A good location for business entertainment or social.Parking on site. (tip the parking attendant)

Hotel dining room - same name of hotel
I have eaten here many times over the last 8 years and this last trip continued to please. With no turkey in sight we had our Thanksgiving dinner here, choosing from the items that were prepared table-side. The steak and the salmon were flamed with skill and were perfectly done as requested, with crepes Suzette for desert. The salads have lovely presentations, the soups are delicious. I recommend the avocado or the macadamia. Service is very attentive. On the weekends they still have live guitar music. There is also outside seating and always lovely linens. The entry through the garden of the hotel is beautiful.

Something different
We, a group of about 20 people, had dinner on Sunday at this beautiful restaurant of sleek architectural design. They'd close at 7pm Sunday, but stayed open for us. Marino, the operation director, is extremely accommodating, generous and friendly. The staff is courteous. The menu is extensive. Their wine collection is enormous. I'd call the food "fusion" - innovative and interesting. The owner selected a variety of appetizers, the best of all of which was a grilled octopus leg - wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked! One problem was that appetizers were brought one after another, all so good we couldn't pass up, and by the time we started the main course, we were pretty full. Our group ordered a variety of dishes for the main course. I ordered tuna prepared as tataki. Unfortunately it was very tender but was not seared enough on the surface to seal the flavor. Mario asked me how it was, so I gave him my honest opinion. He offered to take it back, but that was not necessary. He listened to my suggestion, so I'm sure their tuna dish will improve to perfection in due course. It's quite amazing such a restaurant like this exists in a provincial city of Uruapan. It symbolizes the beauty and the promising future of Uruapan.
