On a warm summer night we decided to have a late dinner. We were treated to excellent service, gorgeous church steeple views and delicious food. The jicama tacos are their signature dish and provide more content and flavour than their rather bland name would indicate. So good were the surprise shrimp pieces and salsa that we ordered a second round after sharing the equally well-prepared octopus. The server described this dish as being boiled and then a sauce added. When we commented that boiled octopus sounded kind of squishy and not very appetizing and preferring it grilled, he said...no problem and it arrived deliciously grilled and sauced. Accompanied by slices of baguette, this dish would be better paired with something lighter like olives or cucumbers or pita bread. Background music of jazz classics was perfect for a delightful evening. We didnât happen to be bothered by smokers during our visit but smoking is permitted and could possibly ruin the experience for some. The food is too good to be spoiled by secondhand smoke.

In a city with so many English-speaking people, the menu, replete with laughable translations into English, should have warned us off. It may be a great place for breakfast, but our dinners were pretty awful. Exhibit A: my wife's chicken marsala, which came buried under a WHITE sauce of dubious provenance. Her vegetables were canned or frozen; she hated her dinner. Three of us had salads, which were fine if unremarkable. Exhibit B: our friend ordered a lemon pie, got a lemon cheesecake. My 'homemade' apple pie was not homemade nor pie, but it was made of apple and came with ice cream. Our wines were pretty dreadful, yet in other SMA restos, we were served wonderful wines, even of Mexican origin. The ambience was quirky - our table was built for 5 diners? We couldn't find a table for 4. And despite the name, there is nothing French on the menu, not even a baguette. Service was attentive; they wanted to please. But they kept bringing the wrong plates, committing other bush-league mistakes that required undoing.Of all our dinners out in SMA, this was our only bad one.

Folk Art coverd walls, wood burnning fire place cozy old colonial building in heart of town.
I don't usually start with the service, but Fernando was so good he gets the first mention. He spoke great English and was very attentive and extremely helpful with advice and suggestions. We wanted to be outside and they have a really nice rooftop dining area, which also provides a good view of the Cathedral. Wonderful menu, perfect for us non meat eaters. We had The Salmon and the Mahi-Mahi, baked Potato and steamed vegetables. Finished with a Creme Brulee. Good Margarita and nice red wine made the meal perfect. We will be back again before we leave San Miguel Allende.

I had been here a couple years ago and not been impressed. It was different tonight. The food was beautifully presented and tasted pretty good. As vegetarians, we didn't have a lot of options, but the ones we tried were good. Service was good, professional and efficient.

Ate here with the family and had one of the better meals at La Mezcaleria. We enjoyed the variety of mezcal based cocktails, and ate some of the grilled veggies. Everything was delightful from the outdoor sitting area to the service we had a great time as a large group.

We travel to San Miguel De Allende every few years and discovered this lovely ceylonese restaurant many years ago. Unfortunately, the owner moved away in 2009 and the restaurant closed. We were overjoyed to find that the owner/chef had returned to San Miguel and reopened at a new location. The food was just as great as we remembered, service was excellent and the new restaurant very attractive. Do yourself a favor and visit the restaurant. It is a short distance by cab from the Jardin and worth the effort.

Location - about a 8 to 10 mins walk from the main square in town - very convenient. Setting - tiny restaurant, casual atmosphere, bar with four seats The food - exceeded my expectations. The flavors were great , and many of the dishes were creative. They were all on the small side - meant for sharing .The only item that was not a wow was the Moroccan soup (which was not bad at all). The grilled octopus was excellent ; so was the seared tuna . My favorite dish though was the shrimp quesadilla- it was bits of shrimp wrapped in tortilla infused with squid ink - it was definitely not like the traditional quesadilla. The drinks - the lychee martini was delicious ; the mezcal mule was quite tasty as well. Service - friendly and efficient. This is a must try in SMA
