Wat een verrassing, op een plek waar je dit niet zou verwachten. In een oude trein verstopt in het bos. Geproefd van de nieuwe winterkaart. Afgelopen zomer ben ik hier ook diverse keren geweest met vrienden. Er wordt super en heel creatief gekookt. De bediening is zeer goed en heel attent.Kortom een echte aanrader

We had lunch at Mennega; we had a simple yet tasty cheese sandwich. The service was efficient and friendly. Could not ask for more. Oh yes, and the toilets were clean.

We had something to celebrate, and wanted to do this a bit different this this. So we took one of the barbeque rafts. We were with 7 people and the raft was just the right size to move around the table and the BBQ. The food was and drinks were very good and there was more than enough for everybody. Despite of the fact that we did not have sun it was just a perfect afternoon. In case there would have been rain, we could have changed our plans and go for a buffet inside the restaurant.

The main restaurant inside the Van der Valk Motel Assen is called 28 Dining, named after the highway A28 on which the motel is located. It is a very spacious and recently redecorated restaurant in faux seventies style. The food was pretty decent and did not take too long to come. Be careful to sit a bit out of airconditionings way.

We had the 6 course menu. With every course we were wondering, can it get better??? And yes, it can. Absolutely stunning food, a very modern take on haute cuisine using local ingredients. The food was light and interesting using different techniques The accompanying wine just ultimate the experience. The staff was polite and very professional. To meet the chef made this visit even more special. I will most certainly come back.

We were on the lookout for a âquick biteâ while traveling. We hit on âKlein Paramaribo â restaurant. It doubles as a take-out and restaurant. Seats were comfortable and the waitressâ reception friendly. The menu is a staple of Surinam food and not an endless list of choices which is fine. We took ârotiâ which was tasty and hearty. Do not expect exceptional cuisine, but the food is made with care, love and that shows. The price â quality is good. We would have been fine without the (taped) music which is a weird mix of probably Surinam bands / singers that not always sing in key. The chef makes the difference and his personal approach makes you really feel at home. Adjacent parking is not possible, so be prepared to walk a few meters.

De Pub is a combined bar and restaurant suitable for informal dining. We gorged on their All You Can Eat Spareribs which were very tasty and very good value. They came with bread and garlic butter for starters, and were served with very good french fries, salad and vegetables (leek), and a lovely homemade garlic sauce. Also many other good options on the menu. The bar (cafe) part of De Pub also looked nice, has a warm atmosphere.
