Find out what International restaurants to try in Morelia. Morelia (Spanish pronunciation: [moˈɾelja]; from 1545 to 1828 known as Valladolid) is a city and municipality in the north central part of the state of Michoacán in central Mexico. The city is in the Guayangareo Valley and is the capital and largest city of the state. The main pre-Hispanic cultures here were the Purépecha and the Matlatzinca, but no major cities were founded in the valley during this time. The Spanish took control of the area in the 1520s. The Spanish under Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza founded a settlement here in 1541 with the name of Valladolid, which became rival to the nearby city of Pátzcuaro for dominance in Michoacán. In 1580, this rivalry ended in Valladolid’s favor and it became the capital of the colonial province. After the Mexican War of Independence, the city was renamed Morelia in honor of José María Morelos, who hailed from the city. In 1991, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved colonial buildings and layout of the historic center.
Things to do in Morelia
This restaurant is in a lovely setting and it has a fine view of Morelia. The food was spotty with only a couple of dishes that one could call excellent. We all particularly liked the shrimp carpaccio which was one of the best starters any of us had ever experienced. The pasta dishes had pasta that was properly cooked but each of the three were done with spaghetti with no finesse in choosing the right pasta for each specific sauce. The âfetuccini Alfredoâ has mixed with cotijaâ cheese and was a reinvention gone bad! I think the crema was Mexican crema, not cream. The sour cream flavor mixed with the cotija cheese tasted like a muddy mixture. We had ordered a particular white sparkling wine. And we were asked by the untrained waiter if we wanted it cold or at room temperature. ???? Duh! Sparkling wine at room remp, are you kidding??? Then we waited for 30 minutes or so while it was allegedly chilled. Then some manager came out and said we couldnât have that bottle and that we had to have the rose version of the same cecause they couldnât sell the white version at the menu price. So we waited another 30 minutes or so while they tried to chill the second bottle. Meanwhile our dinner was 2/3 over and we had no wine. So finally we cancelled the Rose and ordered the house white wine, which was sub standard at best and way over priced for the quality.Otherwise service was attentive and servers were plentiful. It is too bad they obviously had little training in fine dining. This place could be excellent with a manager that really had a training program to teach about wine service and a bit more finesse in the kitchen. I hope they do improve over time.

Signature burgers. Local ingredients with international techniques. Different options of side dishes (no fries). Vegeterian options. Delicious desserts.
We are a group of four foodies and excellent cooks in our own right. Only one of us had ever eaten at this restaurant previously. We really wanted to find a place with a great burger or slider. We found this restaurant to be below average at best.Service: our service was okay but it seemed as though our server(s) had had little training or practice.Ambience and Vibe: this part of the experience was pretty good but our table should only have been used as a two or three top as there was insufficient room for drinks and service plates and cutlery.Burgers: Three of us asked for medium doneness on our burgers and one requested medium rare. Upon delivery, three medium burgers were quite rare and even cold and raw in some places. The medium rare burger was almost uncooked. The medium rare burger was returned and came back with very little change if any. Our servers just didnât seem to care and nobody even asked if everything was okay. This was not the only problem because the meat quality was not good and the burgers were clearly prefabricated in some factory rather that made by hand. And it seemed like the meat must have been cooked right out of the freezer rather than prepared with fresh meat The overall burger experience was poor.We ordered each of the potato sides on the menu. The potatoes in each dish were quite under cooked and pretty much hard to bite into. The sauces were not to our taste but that may have been a cultural difference. All in all we were sad that we had not yet found our âgreat burgerâ in Morelia. But tomorrow is another day!Hello Charles.Thank you for you review.I can assure you that our meat is made freshly every day from scratch. We mix it and mold it by hand (we use a mold) and it has never being frozen. I´m so sorry that it gave you the wrong impression.Apologies for the inconvenience regards the doneness of your meatsWe appreciate your business.

Food was amazing. Place is very hip and seems like it should be in Hollywood or new York. See a cool place like it was a surprise. Food was good, good drink specials.

I usually find restaurants with a view lack good food, but this restaurant changed my opinion. The gorgeous second floor view of the main square and cathedral also kept us above the often annoying street vendors. Service was impeccable and food beautifully prepared. A shared squid appetizer was succulent and nicely spiced. Risotto, lamb, pork chops, fish - all well-prepared.

The restaurant, open every day from 12:00 noon until midnight, offers cozy, quiet dining in a truly elegant setting, a setting where you can go in casual clothing or your best gala dress, where you can enjoy live music (even on the sidewalk) vetted by the
The lack of knowledge by the Hostess of the menu should have been a warning. She had trouble answering vegetarian questions. The enchiladas placeras without chicken were a disgrace to Michoacan: thick dry tortillas served with little sauce. Infinitely better in the local markets. The corundas were bland and languid. They brought carnitas instead of trout which made my guest wait while others ate. If you must eat here, eat inside as outside you are interrupted too many times by endless wandering merchants that are pushing what you donât want to hear or hold. I like giving but not when I am eating. The best part of the service was they gave us our check immediately so we could leave. I greatly preferred the food at the Libreria on the corner.

I enjoyed my dinner there so much that I returned for another. The seafood tacos (crunchy shrimp-my favorite, octopus, and tuna) were sublime - about a half dozen choices of preparation.Really friendly, attentive service. Wish I could remember the name of this dessert. They warned me that it would take 25minutes to prepare - well worth it! Thereâs a lovely, lively terrace upstairs, but I chose downstairs because it was quieter. My first restaurant choice in Morelia!Thank you so much for your review. Its very nice to know that you had a good time woth us. I think the dessert you had was the chocolate fondant with red wine and berries coulis and mint meringe. I hope you visit us soon!Thank you!

I have been walking by this place for years but never went in until now. Something about the troje look put me off. But, come to find out, the interior is comfortable and just dark enough to make it romantic. The troje at the sidewalk is bright and cheery. The food is delicious. We enjoyed the fried parsley especially. The little gratis breads and potato salad and saucy eggplant plates they bring to the table when you sit down are worth the "price of admission." Servings are attractive, delicious, and service superb. I happily recommend Emiliano's to anyone and everyone.
