We had reserved for dinner with over 40 people. But we reached hours late. But they are very flexible, especially for Norwegian standard. Also unusual the usual fish, mostly tasteless and expensive in Norwegian Restaurants was quite economical and had great taste with a special gravy. The girls were attending quick and with a very friendly and personal attitude. OK, as in most Norwegian Restaurants. No desert available. Not even the local cookies. There was even time for a stroll through the pedestrian area with lively pups in two minutes walking distance

Nikkers came by it's name because of the style of pants worn by staff. In winter they apparently wear the traditional high wool socks with ribbons. Today we saw what we would call capri's. We were suggested this place by our tour guide and decided to go right after getting settled in our room. We arrived at the pub side just as some people were leaving. Staff told us that the pub was booked for a closed group of fifty at 7 but they could serve us first. (We came just before 6). The ambience was very nice with lots of traditional Norwegian items and pictures on the wall and a moose head on the back wall. Staff told us the aim is to make people feel they have some of the country in the city. The moose burgers had been recommended to us so we started with that. Mine had to be adjusted as I am on a low sodium diet and the chef did an excellent job changing some of the traditional toppings to grilled vegetables and leaving sauces off. My french fries also came without salt. Both of us very much enjoyed our burgers . For dessert we opted for the lemon tart served with vanilla ice cream, hazel nuts and lingonberries. It was excellent. It was z most enjoyable meal with excellent service. Prices were a little higher than we are used to for a similar type of meal but we had been warned that things are more expensive in Norway. The bill came go approx $110. Cdn before tip.

I've dined here twice and was very satisfied and impressed both times. There are not too many menu choices, which allows the kitchen to concentrate on top quality and efficiency, even when there are a lot of customers. The recipes are not really creative, but not oversimplified, either, with some nicely subtle sauces and condiments. The room is unfortunately noisy when crowded, with guests' conversations accompanied by a muffled rock beat. Decor is dark, rustic, and open, rather than romantic or cozy.
