A friendly, family run 18th Century Country Pub serving quality traditional ales and home cooked quality food. Family friendly with patio, beer garden and children's play area set in the historical village of Blakedown, Kiddermister.
Prawns in the curry were not king prawns..The risotto was bland and lumpy. The steak was not tender, it was quite tough for a couple of our party. The staff were friendly enough, however, one of the waitresses when a member of our party said i ordered a side she said, no you didnt..even though we all heard her order the side the waitress repeated no you didnt...then said i can get you some, she tried to call her out..this is not good service. Plus side it was nice and quiet not rowdy. I dont think i would go here again.

They serve a different menu to the the one online. It was very limited, 2 meat dishes, 2 fish dishes and 1 vegetarian. The salt and vinegar potatoes are extremely overpowering and spoilt the cod completely. The meat dishes don't have much in the way of veg. We all had difficulty finding food we wanted. The staff are polite, but very sparse, the service isn't speedy. The decor and ambiance are great, but do little to improve lack of choice and slow service. We won't be going there again.

We are a group of four ladies travelling together. On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and, more importantly, a speedy check in. Our room was quite large and spotlessly clean. We had a lovely big television. The bathroom was bright with a very efficient shower. We an open plan wardrobe and drawer space which worked well for us and bedside unit each, whuch is better than just the one in the middle. The food at the Gainsborough House Hotel was excellent. Full marks to the Chefs. There was plenty of choice for cooked breakfast and delicious pastries. There was a choice of starters for the evening meal and they were all very nice .There was always a vegetarian option in the evening which included a choice of several different vegetables that were all well cooked. Every evening there was a different choice of meat. Over the four nights we had pork, turkey, beef and gammon. All the joints were moist and cooked to perfection. Every meal was piping hot. The desserts were large and delicious!, We could not fault the food. All the Staff at the Hotel were polite and helpful. They could not have been better. We would definitely stay there again.
