Kamometei

Excellent value - the morning set of 980 yen has rice, seaweed soup, grilled fish, two side dishes, sashimi and dessert! The fish is very fresh and I nearly ate all the bones too! The salt used is of the right quantity too. I know this morning Market is famous for squids but I really can’t eat one whole squid sashimi by myself as it’s so high in cholesterol! 3 ounce of raw squid is nearly over the daily limit of 200mg of cholesterol! The location marked in TA is a bit higher. This restaurant is right in front of the ‘gate’ of the morning market.

Genyo

Based on the previous reviews we decided to stop by on our way from Fukuoka to Nagasaki. It's not far from the art museum. It closes around 2.30pm. We picked the squid sashimi. When it came to our table we noticed that the pieces of squid sashimi were on top of an live squid. Initially we even thought that the sashimi was cut from the live squid. We started eating the sashimi although we were a bit concerned about the live squid moving a bit. At some point the lady came and point to the live squid and said tempura. Then we realized that the live squid was just there for show which made us a bit sad. The tempura came after a while and it was delicious. The squid sashimi was also the fresher sashimi I ever had. There were also several side dishes that came with the squid. Namely miso soup, some noodles soup, pickled veggies, desert with beans... Something that I don't know the name but tasted like pork. We shared (more than enough for 2 people) and the bill came up to slightly over ¥3.000 (cash only, you can find ATM's on 7/11).

I have eaten here a couple of times. Most of the food is of western type. The place also includes a drink bar. Service is very good and it is easy for a foreigner to figure out what to order and how to pay. Good food and worth a return trip

Steak House Caravan

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel staff and so happy we tried it out! The short version is that we went for lunch and loved it so much, we made a reservation for the next evening for dinner before we were to leave Karatsu. The steak was some of the best I've ever had (including Kobe Beef in while visiting Kobe) and cooked to perfection by the chef in front of us. Additionally, we had one person in our group that needed a gluten free meal and one that was a vegetarian and the chef paid extra attention to detail and asked many questions particularly about gluten allergy to make sure everyone was taken care of. The food was delicious enough to give this place 5 stars alone, but the chef just makes the experience that much better! Sit at the counter if you can so you can talk with him when he has time... though if it's really busy, he can't talk much of course!
