We went here for Mother's Day and weren't aware of the fact that there was no a la carte, but just a special menu. The menu contained some fish dishes, which my mother doesn't eat. The chef was very good about it though and without any trouble suitable alternatives were found. All courses of the meal were well presented and delicious. It's a very small restaurant, so make sure you have a reservation!

El Greco Heerlen, een traditionele Griek & internationaal restaurant. Ook geschikt voor grote groepen. *Keuken is geopend tot 22.00 uur.*
My partner and I went to El Greco to celebrate the start of a 3 week holiday. We were met at the restaurant door and were pointed towards a table. Not very welcoming at all. As soon as we were seated, a waiter with Ouzo came to the table bringing cutlery, then another waiter brought the menus, and asked for a drinks order. We'd only just sat down.! We ordered a half litre of the house white, and as soon as it was brought, the waiter was back for our dinner orders. We had to ask for more time. The atmosphere seemed rushed and very professional, although a couple of the waiters were friendly and while the service was all very swift, I didn't feel like we were expected to eat and go. The food is amazing.! I had the Greek Chicken Soup, which was a watery broth with lots of chicken, Greek pasta and herbs. It was delicious, one of the best chicken soups I've had. It came with 4 bread rolls. I ordered the Gyros From The Oven as a main. It didn't look like much, just a stubby bowl with gyros, mushroom sauce and cheese on top, but it was very filling and absolutely delicious, and I couldn't finish it. For dessert, I tried the Kataifi, with ice cream and whipped cream. It was very, very sweet and sticky, but again, delicious. I had some Drambuie afterwards. When we asked for the bill, we were also brought small glasses of a green drink, with ice in it. I have no idea what it was, but it wasn't very nice. It had a mild taste of bubblegum and almost ruined the lovely warm flavours of the meal we'd just had. Neither of us took more than a small sip. The bill was reasonable at just over â¬70. We're definitely going back.Dear TheOnlyRogueAngel,Thank you for the review. We hope to see you soon again! With kind regards,Team El Greco

Bad service from the owner, we certainly will not come back. We came in from the cold and I ordered Turkish tea on the menu, and he said they don't have Turkish tea but they have wine. I don't drink alcohol, so I just ordered coffee. We'd noticed they kept pushing on the wine sales throughout the meal. Appetizers and main courses went fine but we had to remind the waiter & waitress of our desserts 3 separate times and it finally came more than 1 hour after our main courses. The owner brought them and he was not even apologetic, he just said 'you have to wait for good food.' I wondered if the couple next to us were served bad food because they had 4 courses, came later than us, but were already done and had left when we were still waiting for our 3rd course dessert. And it was an under cooked apple struddle, not particularly warm when served, definitely not worth the wait. The young waiter & waitress were friendly and nice but an arrogant owner does not make this a welcoming place. Highly not recommended!

No reservation, it was no problem. Eating with a nice view on the square. Nice servants and a good plate of food. The price is however too high for the meal. the desserts were tasteful. Good alternative for an evening

We have been several times and really enjoy eating here. It is best to make reservations but if you want to wait they usually seat people pretty quickly. The tomato soup is the best I have had. Omelets and wraps are very good also. The wait staff is very friendly and service is perfect.

Beautifully designed & co-ordinated hotel on the outside (acres of ground) & on the inside (animal theme) Comfortable beds. Excellent views. Good pool & spa facilities. Vast choice at breakfast = every nationality catered for. Airy seating area just outside our room decorated with individual pieces of enormous blown glass fruit. Each on its own pedestal. Sun streaming in from floor to ceiling windows. Staff were helpful, friendly & courteous at all times.

I was in Heerlen for business meetings. Was booked at the same karsteel Terworm hotel. The restaurant was within the hotel.Like in fairy tales, this was a small beautiful hotel surrounded by a small moat. Yes it was filled with water when I arrived and as it was raining, the drizzles and the misty day certainly added to the very sumptuous tales and folklores of castles.Very medieval. The castle has a inner square which in sunny days would have provided a great wine down and happy hours drinks. I booked the dinner at 8pm and on my arrival, there was a private party in the restaurant. But to my utmost surprised, I was ushered to a cellar where there were 4 tables with one supple already seated. The lights were dimmed and it certainly evoke a sense of medieval dinning. The wine list was very wide and full.As I was travelling alone I decided to pare my meals on my own. I started with a house rose - a Tempranillo- bodegas Pascual, Ribera del deuro. It was amazingly smooth not as dry as I had thought. Good start. I then followed on with a red from verenigde staten, Washington state. I broke my rules on US wine but it was worthwhile. The red was medium bodied and very smooth finish. I settled on a 3 course meal priced very reasonably at 49.50 euros, prefering to choose my own dessert - if My stomach still had space and could make it there. My first appetiser was the lobster- beet root- Asparagus.Just as you see the picture, it was better than the picture. Lobster pieces lying on a circular frame of vegetables, white asparagus bits, mango..etc. A charming mixing of taste and delightful presentation. The lobsters were nicely seasoned and soft and juicy. My next course was even better - it was the fried trout with caviar and asparagus. This was delicious. So well prepared so tasty and oozing with flavour. The trout was grilled to perfection. Soft inside and the caviar was enough to make a difference to the taste. My final course was the lamb rack with wild garlic and asparagus. The lamb was so fragrantly grilled and out of this world taste. What was slightly âdefectiveâ was that I would have preferred more sauce. The whole evening ended with me being absolutely âintoxicatedâ with the cheese cake. Nothing too cheesy. It was absolutely heavenly with my last paring - an vintage Armagnac. All in all a wonderful evening...exceedingly satisfied and will look forward to come back soon.

We really enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. We had no booking but could still be seated on the terrace as it was not col. After some beef croquettes (bitterballen) as snack appetizer with our local beer we decided to go for the 2 services menu at a very good price of about 23â¬. We chose a beef tartare and crunchy tuna fish as starter. Both were very good. Then we had a beef "onglet" with root celery asparagus and mushrooms. Although the sauce was supposzd to be truffled the truffle taste was very discreet but the dish was excellently balanced in tastes. The chips were excellent but in very small quantity. We drank a local wine which was a good value for money (donersfeld). Bread and butter very tasty too! This was an excellent surprise in Heerlen!
