Independent Cafe Bistro in the heart of Colchester. Serving Speciality coffee and Breakfasts through to Lunch and Evening Supper Clubs. Fully Licenced, 100 seat restaurant including 35m2 outside Courtyard. Vegan and Gluten Free options available.
Was recommended to try this establishment by member of staff at the Castle Museum. He was not wrong. A friendly welcome and comprehensive menu greeted us. Falafel, hummus and salad for me, quiche, salad and chunky chips for her. This was followed by a huge slice of courgette and avocado cake. Delicious!!! We sneaked some caramel shortbread home for later. Pricing very good. It was only on the way home we realised we had a vegetarian lunch. Just goes to show you don't need to eat meat or fish for a great meal.

The Layer Fox is at the centre of the rural village of Layer de la Haye near Colchester. Over 300 years old, it re-opened as a Free House under new management in the summer of 2015 having been completely restored throughout in cluing the toilets and kitch
First visit when viewing houses in the area.We booked lunch, rustic country interior, polite and helpful staff. The roast beef and lamb lunches were on the expensive side over £16, and the meat portions could have been larger, however the potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, veg and gravy were delicious. Good selection of beer, the house Red was acceptable at a reasonable price.Worth a visit.

I'd never been to this restaurant in Butt Road, Colchester (not a particularly attractive part of Colchester) but was very impressed by the warm and stylish interior. We had roasts and pud and both were very good quality. Apple crumble fell a bit short as custard was lukewarm upon arrival, and apple was quite hard but overall a good impression on first visit.
