While in Chicago for a birthday celebration, I decided to make it the best experience for my wife that I could do. I chose the 3 Michelin Star Alinea Restaurant (only 3 Star in Chicago) for this special night. This is an almost 3 hour dinner with 9-12 courses and it is an amazing experience throughout the entire time!! It is a pre-fixe menu that Chef Grant Achatz creates based on available premium ingredients. We sat in the Gallery which is the best experiential dining that you can get at Alinea. It was amazing from the moment we walked in and the staff, sommelier, and chefs did not disappoint at all! This is an expensive experience, but in my opinion it was worth every cent just to amaze both my wife and me. I have eaten at many fine dining establishments in my life, but this one is by far the most amazing dining experience. I hope to go again in a couple years when we are back in Chicago. Reservations are hard to come by so look early and call in a favor if you have to because it is certainly worth it! Enjoy!!

We have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years and it keeps getting better each time we visit. Our favorites are the dates and the dinner steak. Giulietta provided outstanding service as she has in the past. They have a nice wine assortment and great deserts. We will be back!

I'm not especially a seafood fan. I rarely order fish from a regular restaurant menu (not liking "fishy" flavors) so a visit to a restaurant such as this fills me with a certain trepidation. Having said that, this was a delightful meal and the presentation, execution of service and the dishes themselves, first class.The menu is not huge but allows the diner to select an experience. The appetizer section is titled "to share" (or similar) and these are small plates one can order to be delivered a la tapas. You can order your own, of course. There are also soups (lobster bisque and clam chowder among them) for personal consumption too. Then there are the main courses. You don't need to move onto mains should you prefer to dine on the appetizers. It is up to you and works well.The appetizers are great and the presentation is first class. We ordered an excellent crab cake, shrimp bruschetta and, what seems to be a signature, the octopus. Although the mis en scene of the dishes when placed in front of you is superb, my dining companion is not a fan of octopus and was put off by the appearance of a single, large, apparently grilled tentacle. However it was delicious - beautifully cooked and flavored with a little spice. Not rubbery as one might fear upon initial viewing. As I mentioned, not being a fish fan I was drawn to the fish and chips option which I chose (I am a brit after all) and it was again, perfectly cooked, battered cod. I enjoyed it although I have to say, I was already reasonably replete from the appetizers. My wife had the bass and pronounced it excellent indeed. Again, presentation was a delight. Desert was a magnificent chocolate cake with coffee ice cream. A great end to the meal. This was an anniversary meal for us and the restaurant was extremely generous in recognizing that. They provided us with glasses of bubbly as we sat down and complimentary small deserts of creme vanille served in a half shell on a bed of ice. Such touches make a meal truly memorable.The dining room is large but you have to book to be sure of eating here. We were late to the game so ate at the unfashionably early hour of 530. I am not a fan of such late afternoon dining but was glad we got the chance to dine here whatever the time of day. The space is airy and there is some noise but really nothing that distracts from conversation across a table thank goodness. Also nothing as vulgar as a TV to pollute the ambiance. This is a place to eat well and celebrate the fact, and I think it does an admirable job.So; excellent food, very attentive and friendly (as well as knowledgeable) service in a great location. A good wine list (again served by knowledgeable wait staff) rounds things off. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and it seemed very reasonable to me for the overall experience. Highly recommended, even if seafood isn't entirely your cuisine of choice.

Had a recent visit for lunch during the week. Everything was so tasty. Loved the shaved Brussel Sprout Caesar! It was incredible and a generous portion! This place has a diner-like funky vibe. The staff was knowledgeable and prompt. Great local experience in Chicago! Also tried to Patty Melt-wow, just wow. My daughter went back the next day to try other items on the menu. So worth your time to visit and eat!
