After finding few restaurants being fully booked or closed in the biei area, we ventured to our first izakaya experience in biei at Orenchi (recommended by our hotel reception). We realised Orenchi was only visited by the locals while we were there and they served an amazing variety of food ranging from grilled yakitori, stir fried hot plates, ramen, and other sashimi and seafood options. Highly recommend to try the yakitori, and alcohol were at economical prices! The owners were friendly and hospitable, and when they realized we were foreign visitors, at the end of our dinner, the boss gave us a small container of his farm grown cherry tomatoes which were absolutely juicy and sweet! True gem in the biei neighbourhood - do drop by if you have the chance! Ask for the English menu!

Situated in a neat and small house near the Biei Railway Station, the Cafe was thoughtfully decorated with simplicity. The menu was limited as certain items were not available but food was both delicious and pleasantly presented. Out of the 3 main courses that we ordered, two were of great taste while the signature plate was simple and bland, in our opinion, as all ingredients were boiled but definitely a healthy option. All came with salad, bread and soup at a reasonable price; dessert at extra cost.Take note of its different opening hours for weekday / weekend and try to go early as it was a small family run Cafe, they would only operate while stock last.

This cottage-like restaurant was not easy to find. We initially went to the nearer building. Perhaps so many diners made the same mistake that there was a notice indicating this building was not the correct one, though the car park space was shared. The restaurant was just 50m walk towards the forest. When we were there on a weekday around 2pm, we were surprised the dining hall was empty, except one family there. The interior design was cosy and homely.I ordered their signature dish, i.e beef stew set, which included soup, salad and choice of bread or rice. The beef was tender and soft, the sauce went well with rice or bread. Price was reasonable. Overall, a great dining experience. Highly recommended.

As another poster pointed out, correct name is Junpei not Jumpei. We went there under recommendations from family who just visited few weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised! We both had tempura shrimp, one with the shrimp separate (think that was called a set) and the other a shrimp bowl with sauce drizzled on top. We didn't try the pork or curry, the tempura shrimp was good enough! Shrimp was large and very juicy, one of the best tempura shrimp I've ever had! There is free parking right beside the restaurant, no need to reserve although we did arrive early (around 1130am for lunch). Many locals frequent this place so might be packed if you arrive at peak lunch hour
